Petmate Deluxe Fresh Flow Pet Fountain Review

When I first adopted my cat (a little over a year ago) I just had a regular water bowl for her.  I didn't even know water fountains existed.

It didn't take long for me to discover that my cat hated drinking standing water.  Whenever she could, she'd drink running running water from the sink or shower.  She wasn't afraid of getting soaked by the shower to get that drink.  I was worried that she wasn't getting enough water, so I started looking for alternatives.

I went with Petmate's fountain because it happened to be one of the rewards for my credit card.  When it arrived, I hooked it up right away to make sure it worked properly.  The directions say that some cats may be scared at first (there's a slight hum) and to let them adjust to having the fountain there before actually turning it on.  My cat took to it right away though.  As soon as it was on, she ran over and stuck her paw in.  Then she started drinking.  She definitely gets a lot more water than she used to.  If cats could endorse products, I'm sure she'd endorse this one.

As the person who has to take care of the fountain, I find two negatives about it.  The first is that it sure seems to run out of water fast!  Maybe my cat just drinks a lot!  The fountain makes a sucking sound when it runs low on water; I hear that sound about every three days.  But it's pretty easy to add more water.  The other bad thing is that depending on what sort of stuff you have in your water, you may have to clean it frequently.  So this is yet another thing I have to scrub water deposits from.  My cat's more than a little spoiled, so she refuses to drink from the fountain if it doesn't meet her cleanliness standards.
