We recently adopted a 6 year old chocolate lab from a family who was no longer able to care for her. What a wonderful decision! We have 2 small children and wanted a dog that would be great around kids. Boy did we choose the right dog.

She has the best temperment - she lets the girls lay on her, snuggle with her, dress her up, and just love on her day and night. She has become a member of the family.

I was worried about getting an older dog for our first dog. I thought it would be fun for the girls to "grow up" with a puppy. But choosing an older, more stable, house trained dog has been a much...

My Chocolate Lab, Guinness, is the most good natured, loving , kind and patient dog I have ever known. My husband and I feel blessed to have him in our lives.

Guinness is the inspiration for our on-line business, Brown Dog Treasures.com. We have named Guinness CEO of our comapny. His chief responsiblity is to test out all the toys and try on all the size large or extra dog clothes to see how well they will fit.

If you are looking for a gentle breed of dog that will easily become your best friend, look no further than the Labrador Retriever. As far as grooming is concerned they are low maintenence....

My husband and I bought a yellow lab puppy last year at Christmas time. She was the cutest puppy I could have imagined! From day one she was very mild and became instantly attached to my husband and I.  Almost a year later and she has grown into a beaultiful 72 pound dog! We love her more and more everyday.  I have never seen such loyalty in an animal. She loves us to death and hates when we have to leave her at home to go to work or somewhere else. She has the instincts to protect us when she hears people outside or any noise that she doesn't recognize. Which is really the only time that she...

My pet Yellow Labrador is the most amazing animal I have ever owned.  She is absolutely my best friend.  "Haley" has just turned nine years old and is such a beautiful girl.  I got her from a friend of the family who bred labs.  I picked her out of a litter of her brothers and sisters of 13!  There were black, chocolate and yellow labs in her littler.  She goes everywhere I dogs are allowed and she always wants to go bye-bye in the car.  The dog hair in the back seat proves it!  All of my grandchildren have laid on her, pulled her tail :( and checked out her teeth and she has never once...

I have a two year old chocolate lab and love him very much.  After months of research we went with a lab due to their kindness and loving demeanor.  I did find that he was very easy to train once we started using a crate.  (Crates aren't mean, he actually loves his crate and although we never confine him in it any more he still loves laying in it.)  Labs, as in most big dogs do need their exercise.  I take him on about a twenty minute walk everyday.  Labs can be hyper dogs, I would recommend researching if the puppy you want has hyper or calm parents.  I lucked out and found a calm lab. ...

We got our lab, she happens to be chocolate, as a recsue dog as a puppy.  She was about to be gassed (they have too many dogs) and she was rescued and posted online.  That was 5 years ago and she has turned into the best dog ever.  She was around before our child and she took to her immediately.  She became her biggest protector and she allows her to climb all over her.  I wouldn't say that she is the smartest dog ever but she is fairly intelligent.  What she lacks in smarts she more than makes up for with her heart.  She is the most loving and loyal dog ever.  Some observations...she doesn't...

I have a Black Lab/ Great Dane mix. His name is Mason, and he is a year old. He never barks, does not chew on anything except his toys. He has never had an accident in the house. I also have a Maltese named Benny who is 6. Benny is cranky with my kids and other adults, poops in my house daily ( even though we just put him out), and barks all the time. Mason is calm and relaxed. Sometimes because of the Great Dane he can be demanding, a bit of a bully but, once put in his place is fine. I got both dogs as rescues. I never planned on having any pets. Now, I would never not have a black lab. We have...

I have 2 beautiful American Labs. Brother and sister team , and even though they both have their own personalities, they are the most loving and loyal dogs I have known in a long time. They are high energy and seem to never sleep but when they do they are out like a light. They are Gentle giants , but when the chips are down do go into protection mode, the female more so than the male. I take them for car rides and they are on the best behavior. They tolerate and nuzzle the 3 cats I have and guard my 86 year old mother. They are wonderful dogs to have even thought they do get into trouble on occasion....

Our Sadie is the sweetest now that she's two.

They are chewers as puppies. $200 in air conditioning wires, $150 service call when she dug up and ate the Dish Network wires, $100 service call when she ate the internet wires, and one mad neighbor when she dug herself under the fence and into the neighbors yard to chase the cat.

The definietely need training as they get big fast and still think of themselves as small dogs.

Lovable, friendly, kid friendly, happy, and provide so much joy. Great car companions, running and biking companions, swimming companions, and more!

One of the best pets you'll...

The Labrador retriever originated in Newfoundland, where it aided fisherman with their catch. After being crossed with setters, spaniels and other retrievers, the Lab sharpened its skills as a true retriever. But what makes Labs even more popular is their kind, outgoing nature.

“My Lab is the sweetest dog I’ve ever known. He greets all my friends whenever they come to my house, and he always wants to be in the same room with everyone, like he’s part of the group,” said Geoff Rudolph of Newport Beach, Calif., owner of Champ, a 1½-year-old yellow Lab.

we are on our second lab, our first one lived to 13 and was a great high engery dog, we told every one she would settle down when she grew up, she slowed down about 8, but was always an active dog.  we have a six month old pup right now. they are very happy, loving dogs, they want to be with you.  They will try to please you, if you give them the exercise and discipline they need.  It breaks my heart to see some many in the shelters, becasue people don't due there research before they get one.  They need you in there life they are not a couch potato.

Labs are wonderful dogs.  We had one for seven years and just recently lost her to cancer.  She was one of the best dogs.  Always wonderful with my four year old daughter since we brought her home from the hospital.  They can be very high energy and should go on walks or be allowed to run and play ball.  They are very easy to train because they want to be with you and please you.  The breed can be known to have health problems such as hip dysplasia and can be prone to cancer as they get older.

I love our yellow lab so much. He is 9 years old now. He is so good with our kids. The kids play with him all the time. H loves to ride in the car, loves to eat, and is great with kids other than ours. Before we had children other kids used to come to our house all the time and want to play with our dog. They always said where is Coco, our dog. He is such a great dog to have around. He is very protective and barks when he hears noises outsid our door. I'm so glad to have our dog around.

Our Yellow Labrador Retriever is truly a family member.  She's smart, loyal, dependable.  She helps take care of our kids, even walking them down to the school bus at the end our long driveway.  She waits with them and when the bus door closes she sprints back up the drive and into the house.  That is her most cherished family job and she does it well!  She is now 12 and shows no sign of hip problems, knock on wood.  I would get another lab in a second.
