My gardening catalogs are full of pages of the newest, latest, and greatest varieties of garden plants.  That's great, but sometimes, the old tried and true can add a bit of soul to your landscaping project.  Bluebells have been around for a long time, and they remain popular with many gardeners.  The Blue Chip Campanula is not only a hardy, reliable perennial groundcover, but it also fills in empty spots with interest and color.

The foliage of the Blue Chip Campanula grows in a mound of tiny, heart-shaped leaves.  The china-blue flowers are shaped liked little bells and appear abundantly throughout the summer.  I also bought the Campanula in a white variety and from a design standpoint, they cool down the reds, yellows, and oranges in the surrounding flowers in the garden bed.  I have mine planted in full sun, but

My Campanulas are planted in full sun, though they also do well in partial sun (zones 3 - 7).  The mounded plants flower from mid to late summer.  They only grow to about 8 or 9 inches tall, so they are perfect plants for ground cover.  They grow moderately, but I haven't had any problems with them trying to take over or invade other plants.   These flowers do die back in the fall, but they return reliably the following spring.  Consider using them in places that are difficult to mow or as an accent in borders.

In my opinion, the Blue Chip Campanula is a traditional standby that may not be the center of attention in your garden, but it adds depth to the overall look and feel of your flower show.

I have been lucky with them. I have 2 George Burns in front of the house and 7 Gold Medal in the raised garden above my storm shelter. I also installed a drip watering system for the raised garden with a timer. ;)

You have roses! I'm so jealous. I love the looks of them but I've heard they are notoriously difficult to grow. :)

LOL...well, the only solution is to find some really pretty weeds! :)

I love the looks of these, I think they would accent my George Burns Roses very well. ;)

We can grow weeds real easily but flowers are harder with our soil conditions. ;>
