I picked up Percy Jackson and the Olympians firstly because the cover looked interesting.  Within 20 pages I was hooked.  I sped through all five and now I recommend them to ANYONE and EVERYONE.

The story is interesting and unique.  I read a lot of young adult fiction and I'm always looking out for books that qualify in these categories.

There are a few things that make these books unique:

-I really enjoyed the explanations of ADHD and Dyslexia.  I imagine that a child who suffers from these things might read these books and feel uplifted.

When we completed the Harry Potter series I was anxious to keep my son involved in reading positive, fun books about characters his own age (he's 11).  Someone suggested this series by Rick Riordan so I gave it a try.  I loved it!  I gave it to my son and he loved it.  We couldn't wait to get the next one from the library. 

 The only drawback now is that we read them so fast that we have to be patient (yeah, right) until the 4th one (of 5) comes out in May 2008.  To bide our time, we visit his website which not only has some Percy related extras, but the author makes suggestions about...
