Summer days can be scorching where I live, but the nights are often comfortable. If only we had a good fan to draw cool outside air into the bedroom at night, we'd use a lot less air conditioning.

We started looking for a suitable fan and found the Pelonis WFT9 Dual 9-Inch window fan at Home Depot for around $22, which I thought was pretty cheap.

What it is

The Pelonis WFT9 fan is a plastic assembly that holds two 9-inch fans. The case of the fan is molded as one piece with the fan grilles. At the bottom. between the two fans, are controls that include a three-speed switch for each fan, a thermostat and a switch that adjusts the fan to blow in or out.

On one side of the fan case is a snap-on extension to fit wide windows. On the other side is a pull-out barrier that can also be expanded to fit wide windows. The bottom line is that the Pelonis WFT9 will fit windows from 24 to 33 inches wide. The unit needs a vertical window opening of at least 12 inches high. If your window is between 24 and 33 inches wide and can open at least 12 inches, you can fit the Pelonis WFT9 window fan.

Using it

My windows are 33 inches wide, so the expandable pull-out barrier is at its maximum stretch for my window. However, it does fit. On the top edge of the fan, molded into the plastic, was a fin that is supposed to to on the outside of the window. However, my windows are thicker than Pelonis expected, so this fin was just in the way. I cut the fin off with a utility knife and now the WFT9 fits much better.

We use the fan set to exhaust all the time. When we are awake and around the house, we set the Pelonis WFT9 to full-power exhaust, and it does an okay job of pulling cool outside air into the house. In bed at night, the Pelonis WFT9 is just a couple feet from my head, so we turn it down to its slowest setting. With both fans selected to a speed of "1," this is an exceptionally quiet fan. And it really does a good job of getting the bedroom comfortable. The Pelonis WFT9 is so quiet that it's easy to watch TV in bed. It is very quiet, with no buzzes or vibrations.

Summary

The Pelonis WFT9 Dual 9-Inch window fan looks cheaply made and it just barely fits my 33-inch wide window. However, it does fit and it does work well. At its slowest speed, it is exceptionally quiet and the Pelonis WFT9 is a very good bedroom fan.

I recommend the Pelonis WFT9 Dual 9-Inch window fan.

Bummer about the allergies. There's nothing better than opening the windows on a day with nice fresh air.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sounds like a nice fan. We end up keeping the windows closed because of so many allergies around here--I miss opening up the house!
