We bought the Pella Impervia to replace a rusting, steel-frame bathroom window. We are dedicated to being as green as possible. While we didn't find a perfect product in that regard, the Impervia comes close. It is fiberglass which, while not recyclable now, should be in the future - long before the window actually needs to be replaced. It has a lifetime warranty and it is beautiful. Vinyl off gases is made from petroleum and is all-around bad news for the environment. We looked at wood, but decided against only because this particular window was for a bathroom.

The window is easy to clean and has an easily removable screen. It slides easily and the lock is smooth as well. The window we chose is white, but it is available in other colors. This is great since it allows the buyer to match the windows with their own décor and house color.

We went with an independent company for installation and got a bad deal on that end. Next time we will go with Pella directly. During our research in looking for the window we learned a lot about Pella and are very impressed with their commitment to the environment. Yes, they do make products that are not green, but they are adding green products and have had them longer than just about anyone we could find. They have a huge line of products from windows to doors with a variety of options and prices. The window that we bought was around $250 (plus installation.) While not as cheap as vinyl, it is well worth the few extra dollars to keep another piece of vinyl from adding to the planetary environmental problems we face. In fact, I believe that products that do not meet green standards (and we need to come up with a system to rate them since for now just about anyone can use the "green" label without any real regulation) should be taxed to cover the cost of landfill use, clean up and contribution to greenhouse gases. Perhaps then we would see more responsible products available on the market. I believe more people would buy green products if they were available and affordable. The desire is there, but the products have not been. The flip side to that, of course, is that consumers have to demand them by buying green whenever possible to send manufacturers the message that "we get it"! In the mean time we should all do what we can understanding that no one can do everything.

When we replace windows in the future, we will definitely look at Pella first! The quality is outstanding. The product is beautiful. Pella is a responsible company providing environmentally friendly options. The variety of windows available means we can find something that fits out budget, our values and the look of our house. We would definitely recommend Pella to anyone looking for new or replacement windows or doors. In Colorado Springs Pella has a store near downtown. They order and get the product directly from their company in America (how often do you hear that?) The team there is very friendly and knowledgeable. Next time we will go with them directly instead of an independent company.
