Pedigree Small and Crunchy Bites Dog Food —

Pedigree makes an excellent product.  They do a fantastic job at keeping the prices down.

I began feeding Pedigree as I started to accumulate more dogs, through rescues.  I loved the food I had been feeding, but with more dogs being added to the pack, I had to find a way to cut costs; and Pedigree fit the bill there.

Pedigree is not the most exensive dog food, but they are not the cheapest either.  I cannot honestly say that it is the BEST or the WORST dog food, as that label depends on the individual dog owner.  It all depends on your own likes, dislikes, what you are trying to accomplish by what you feed, and your finances.

Some of those dog foods that cost over $40 a bag are not necessarily better, just because they cost more.  I will, however, caution owners to make every effort to steer away from those really cheap, generic brands that not many folks have not heard of.  Those usually contain more fillers and not much else of any nutritional value.  Do not make the mistake of thinking that just because your dog LIKES it, that it is a good food.  Heck, if we go by that idea, than why not feed 'poop?'  Some dogs like to eat their own (and other dogs) poop, but do you really think it is good for them?  Then apply that same way of thinking to your selection of dog food!

When selecting a dog food, you should get into the habit of reading the labels.  You read label on your own food, don't you?  Then why not do the same for your dog's food?

Ingredients are listed in descending order.  That is to say, that the top listed ingredients are what is in the food most.  The bottom ingredients are maybe just a bit of the ingredient.  You want to avoid foods that have things listed as by-products, which are non-edible animal parts from the rendering plants, such as beaks, hooves, hair, intestinal pieces; you get the idea.  Also, things such as corn meal, beef meal, wheat meal are not that good either.  "Meal" does not mean corn, beef, or wheat; it simply means a mix with only some corn, beef, or wheat.  Meal is not necessarily bad, but try to find this at the bottom of the ingredients list.  Meals are used as fillers.

One other thing about Pedigree, they give back to the community.  They support animal shelters through dog adoptions, they support Search & Rescue dogs, and there is a racer  (for you NASCAR fans), that supports dogs, the #36 Pedigree car.

Pedigree has been making dog food since I was a child.  Pedigree used to be called Kal-Kan back in the '60's and they are now owned by M & M Mars Inc.
