Like a lot of people, my skin type is mixed. My face tends to get oily, but my elbows and other part of my body tend to be dry. I've tried just about every soap for dry skin there is, and always have the same complaint: the soaps that moisturize my dry areas, leave my face feeling greasy or not very clean. Some of them even make my face break out. No such problems with Pears Soap. I don't know much about the chemical properties of soap (I'm no RudiXeno!) but I know what works for me, and Pears Soap works for me.
Glycerine soaps seem to be the only ones that leave me feeling, clean, not greasy, but completley moisturized. And Pears is my fave - it works up to a really luxurious lather, it doesn't have an overpowering smell. I know some people use one soap for their face, and another for their body, but I'm a very low maintanance person. I love taking a bath or shower, but I like it to be simple: a bar of soap, a sea sponge or wash cloth, some good, old hot water, and I'm good to go. No bath salts or shower gel or mixture of products for different parts of my body. The way I see it, it's all skin. Pears is perfect for someone like me. It's gentle on my dry skin, but leaves me feeling clean, and there are no facial break outs. I also like that it doesn't melt away after two showers, as some soaps do. (Why is that?)
As for the price, I've seen one bar of Pears for as much as $5, which I find obscene. On the other hand, Pears seems to be a regular sale item at stores such as Walgreen's or even Dollar tree, where it's sometimes as cheap as 2 bars for a buck. If you look, you'll definitely find it somewhere at a super reasonable price. Do what I do - stock up.
