In my  quest to find a chocolate snack that's not too high in fat, and is actually sorta, kinda good for me, I bought one of Peak Bar's Organic Chocolate Brownies. The label calls it a "Women's Health" product, and describes it as "bakery style." I have no idea what makes this product one geared towards women and, unless they're referring to mud bricks dried in a kiln, I can't imagine a bakery serving anything of this particular "style."  In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize this product has a lot in common with masonry: it certainly looks like a mud brick. It has a texture that is not unlike very dry soil. The flavor is what I'd imagine I'd experience if I licked an adobe house. The pale, brown color is less like chocolate and more like desert sand or worse: camel dung.

This is not the worst of the supposedly chocolate snack bars I've had, but it's far from good. In fact, I'm not really sure it qualifies as a food product, at all. Behind the  dry, dirty texture and flavor, there's a hint of fruit (maybe raisin), which keeps it from being 100% unpleasant. So...maybe 98% unpleasant-tasting?

It this product's corner: it's low in fat and high in fiber. (Big deal - so is a broom!) It's also organic (nice try, no cigar.)

You know, I'm a dreamer because I realize Mounds bars and peanut butter cups aren't GOOD for a person but I figure coconut (like in the Mounds bars) as certain beneficial properties (aside from everything else, a lot of FIBER!) and Reese's peanut butter cups I have read are supposed to be a good kind of candy bar. I guess moderation is the key and moderation is sometimes very challenging for me.

I agree. The SPecial K breakfast bar is ok, and Cocoavia is awesome. Otherwise, it's best to skip chocolate, entirely, except for the occasional Mounds.

Ha - I've been watching way too much Man Vs. Wild! of course, Bear Grylls would probably *eat* camel dung.

I feel your pain, Buddy! No matter how they try, they just can't make a low-fat chocolate bar that doesn't taste low fat (i.e., you could BEAT somebody to death with some of these things, they are so hard.) Sometimes I think we would be just as well off just having a Mounds bar every now and then or maybe a peanut butter cup.
