    Back about 5 years ago I got an email from Mypoints about a joining an on-line payment service. Mypoints was offering 250 points to sign-up through them, so I gave it a look and liked what I saw.

    What is it

    Paypal is an on-line payment service where you can pay for on-line purchases and if you sell on the Internet you can collect payment from them via Paypal. In the last few years Ebay and Paypal have become one and that makes using Ebay so much easier.

    When you first open your Paypal account and enter all your personal and bank info Paypal will then make 2 very small transfers to your bank to make sure everything works as it should. After you receive the 2 small deposits you go back to Paypal's site and enter the deposit amounts (this is how they verify your account) After that you are all set to use it as you like.

    A warning to all users of Paypal (and any other on-line banking service) NEVER and I MEAN NEVER answer an email that comes from them asking for any financial or personal information. Paypal will never do that. There are many unscrupulous people out there and if you answer one of these emails you could loose a lot of money.

    I never keep more than a few dollars in my paypal account, I don't need to either. When I buy something on ebay (or any where else that accepts Paypal) they will transfer money from your bank account to Paypal in order to complete your transaction. I find this a very nice feature.

    Paypal also now offers a Paypal Master Card which not only gives you reward points it carries even more clout on Ebay. By that I mean Paypal insures your purchase when you use the Paypal credit card. I have enough credit cards so I have not applied for one from them, but it is nice to know it is there.

    Paypal is accepted at more than 100,000 places and it is still growing and checkout is faster when you use an on-line payment service such as Paypal. I absolutely love it and I have used it on Ebay for years.

    Using Paypal is not only fast but it is safe and secure to use for on-line purchases. You don't have to enter your credit card number, just click on the button to pay via Paypal and it will take you to your Paypal account where you confirm the info and click on the pay button.You are also emailed a receipt showing who you bought from, what you bought and how much you paid.

    Bottom Line

    Paypal started off very small and they have grown to be a large presence on the Internet. They have a very good reputation and use secure servers too conduct all business. You can tell if your on a secure server site when you look in your address bar and see https instead of just http at the beginning of the URL.(some browsers will show the address bar as pale yellow when your on a secure server)

    Why do it any other way than Paypal they are fast, efficient, and safe for on-line purchases. If you know a persons paypal user name you can even send or receive money directly to that person. I have sent my daughter money when she was in dire need and it takes only a few days to do so and its free. I have made in the neighborhood of about $5,000 worth of transactions through Paypal and never had a single hiccup.

    I would recommend Paypal to any on-line shopper as the easiest, safest and most secure way to shop on-line. Since starting with Paypal I have only used my credit card number on a few sites that don't use Paypal, the one that comes to mind is the U.S. Mint on-line, the others have been my tax bill and garbage bill. The rest I either use direct deduction from my bank or Paypal.

I agree I love paypal I get all my money from doing the surveys sent to pay pal but its a small business account because I love the debit card so I get charged a lot as well but its a small price to pay to get your money now and the survey people pay faster if you have pay pal account

I know people who don't use PayPal. I don't know how I couldn't use it!!

I love PayPal and always mention in my reviews if a site takes PayPal. You gave good advice but I want to add, except for the initial verification, never, ever, log in through an email on PayPal or anything else.

Excellent write- up on this important company. Many people criticize them, but I continue to use Paypal for many payment purposes. The fees aren't bad and I am confident I will receive my money on a timely basis.
