I've learned over the years that most people don't discuss the medicine that they take, or that's all some people take about, their medicines and surgeries.
My internist was after me for years to go to a therapist and to take an antidepressant. Well, I have yet to go to a therapist, but I am...

I have used Paxil for several years now with no ill effects. A senior citizen, I still work part-time, volunteer a lot, am active in my church, babysit my grandchildren, and belong to several community organizations. When I don't take Paxil, after awhile I start feeling irritable and get upset and anxious about simple things and get stressed out easily. I also have Fibromyalgia which chalenges me a lot!!! Paxil keeps me on an even keel..
Ok, let me start by saying that GlaxoSmithKline is in a whirlwind of class action lawsuits all stemming from paxil users. The company is being accused of knowingly misleading the public about dangerous side effects and withdrawal symptoms as well as the effects on an unborn fetus. (Paxil is a huge money maker for them)
My sister remarried two years ago and started a new life with her new husband and his 2 young children. With her having 2 children of her own 4 children all similar in age was a challenge. Although she is very strong willed she told me that she was thinking about talking to her...
review »Doctor gave me Paxil for severe anxiety, mild OCD, chronic/episodic depression, and ongoing extreme rage. I took 20 mg per day alongside 5mg of Buspar every morning, and .25 mg clonopin as needed. At first it worked great... the rage and fear were practically gone and I felt good aside from having zero libido whatsoever. However, it wasn't long before I started feeling flush and out of breath as well as experiencing a needlessly racing heartbeat around the same time every night (roughly 12 hours after my daily dose in the morning). The doc said this was withdrawal and her answer was to take another...
review »I was diagnosed with Chronic concurrent depression at the age of 24 (almost 30 years ago) and I also suffered from severe anxiety or panic attacks. At that time, I had to take atleast two medications to stabilize my chemical imbalances. I also was on a pretty high dosage of each drug. Paxil to me has proven to be a wonder drug. I am extremely happy that it combats the depression along with the anxiety and it's the first time in years where I am on a very low dosage. I was quite concerned entering menopause with a chemical imbalance but it's been rather easy for me, probably because of...
review »Paxil works on depression in the beginning but wains. I even started to develop anxiety problems late in the course of taking this med.
The weight gain is a constant. If you are one of the unfortunate people who suffer from withdrawal from this 'nonaddictive' medicine, you're in for some real hell. It can be near impossible to stop, even when weaning off. I missed two days and had to lay flat. If I even sat up, the room spun, I puked. Standing wasn't an option. I wouldn't wish that year of trying to switch to another medicine on anyone. Even cutting the dosage down and spacing them out was hard...
review »I began taking Paxil primarily for my migraines. My PCP prescribed me 10 mg/day for migraine prevention. It has helped tremendously for that, but once I was on it I realized it was helping with my daily anxiety and depression as well. My psychiatrist upped my dosage to 20 mg/day once we realized the effects were better.
The drawback is that the withdrawal is awful; after just a couple days off you begin shaking, get very dizzy, and have panic attacks. WHen I became pregnant I had to wean myself first by switching to Prozac which was less harmful to the baby, and then slowly cutting off from that....
review »I have been on Paxil now for about 8 years and I love it. I got VERY lucky in that this was the first medicine that I tried and it was perfect for me. I know that most people have to go thru a number of meds before finding the right one(s). But if you have to, do it. It's so worth it to find what works for you! You deserve to have your life back. I have never seen a male have good luck waith Paxil though.
