I have recently developed anxiety. I am not one to take meds at all, but my anxiety was really starting to concern me. I have no problems with depression and am a pretty happy go lucky kind of person besides when my anxiety starts to stir up and then I can not control it. I went to the doctor yesterday and explained my problem, she prescribed Paxil. She stated that I would have few side mild side effects starting off and to give it at least 4 weeks to allow it to work. Well I took my first pill yesterday evening at 5pm and a hour and half later I felt like I was on drugs. I felt so disoriented, wild eyed, nauseated, dizzy, just horrible. Not to mention I had a very hard time sleepying it off. It is now 7:30pm about 26 and half hours later and I can still feel it lingering in my system. Granted I feel much better now. I have read soooo many reviews on this and I can't BELIEVE what people are going through because of this drug. I will not touch it again with a ten foot pole nor any...
...

dmdifalco says "Paxil Taken Correctly Does the Trick" about Paxil Antidepressant

I was diagnosed with Chronic concurrent depression at the age of 24 (almost 30 years ago) and I also suffered from severe anxiety or panic attacks. At that time, I had to take atleast two medications to stabilize my chemical imbalances. I also was on a pretty high dosage of each drug. Paxil to me has proven to be a wonder drug. I am extremely happy that it combats the depression along with the anxiety and it's the first time in years where I am on a very low dosage. I was quite concerned entering menopause with a chemical imbalance but it's been rather easy for me, probably because of the anti-depressant "Paxil" which I've already been on. Yes, I agree that there are withdrawal symptoms that is why it is so imperative that you don't take yourself off without the aide of your physician and that you don't miss a dosage. In my case, my disorder is ongoing so I will be on medication the rest of my life. If you take it like the doctor prescribes...there are wonderful results. ...
...

ih8paxil says "A nightmare!" about Paxil Antidepressant

Doctor gave me Paxil for severe anxiety, mild OCD, chronic/episodic depression, and ongoing extreme rage. I took 20 mg per day alongside 5mg of Buspar every morning, and .25 mg clonopin as needed. At first it worked great... the rage and fear were practically gone and I felt good aside from having zero libido whatsoever. However, it wasn't long before I started feeling flush and out of breath as well as experiencing a needlessly racing heartbeat around the same time every night (roughly 12 hours after my daily dose in the morning). The doc said this was withdrawal and her answer was to take another pill at night, making 30 mg daily total. Looking back, I see how illogical this was.... if someone is having withdrawal from the minimum dose, why would you RAISE the dose?! After a few weeks on the new dosage, the Paxil stopped working altogether. So now I was angry and fearful again, always anxious, could never turn my brain off, and was back to taking the clonopins more often in a day to ease...
...

It was very hard for me to start Paxil especially after reading all the horror stories people post. I weened myself onto it from 2.5mg every 4 days to 20mg. Then the doctor moved it up to 30mg which is what I take today. I have had Panic attacks since my early 20s which led to Agoraphobia. The whole anxienty nightmare. I lived with this for 25 years. I have used several different medicines but since I have been using Paxil, I have gone everywhere. I dreaded going to the doctors and now it doesn't even bother me. I feel so much better and would recomend it to anyone who suffers with panic attacks and agoraphobia.I did have some side effects, such as vivid dreams, that have went away. Any side effects I experience are worth it for the overall effect of goodness it has done I made a promise to come back and post my positive experience with Paxil if I had one and here it is!...

Me on PAXIL:I have anxiety really bad and would have numerous panic attacks a day that would keep me from doing everyday things.I couldn't even go through a fast food drive thru because i felt trapped,i would either have to get out of the car or make people back up and let me out,its so embarrassing.Paxil has helped me alot,i can now go thru drive thru's,get into elevators but i still can't fall asleep without taking something else, but i am very happy with paxil and now that walgreens has made a plan i now get it for $12 for 3 months when i used to pay almost $100 a month,so now i am able to afford it.Sure paxil miht not work for everyone but it has helped me alot. The only draw back is that when you first start taking it,it has to get into your system in order to work and it made me sick for about the first 5 days, but after that i was fine.Just thought i would share my experience and maybe help someone else....

I have been on several versions and several dosages of Paxil (now Paxil CR) for 10 years. It has helped me cope with my anxiety attacks and panic disorder. Most of the time it is all I need, but at times have supplemented it with either Xanax, buspirone, and now Klonipin. I don't know what I would do without it or how I could operate in this stressful world....

Paxil lifted the weight and darkness off of me without too many side-effects. I've been on it for 2 years now and feel more connected to everything, especially myself. The side-effects experienced were headache, constipation and aggitation which abated within 3 months of starting the medication. Paxil works best for me when taken first thing in the morning and withdrawal symptoms similar to side-effects....

I've been on Paxil for about 7 years now. I am so much more relaxed and do not fall into the depressive episodes that I used to. Also, I do not get those obsessive compulsive episodes anymore. I feel as if I'm finally on an even keel. There are some side effects that I could live without, like the weight gain, the constipation and the frustration at how long it takes to orgasm. But, I feel that the benefits definately out weigh the cons of the side effects. I feel much better and am able to handle everyday situations a lot easier. I plainly have a chemical imbalance and this medication is the cure....

I took Paxil for less than six months and though it helped with my severe depression at first, in time I became even more depressed and my psychiatrist put me on another medication. I had no side effects nor was it hard to get off of. It just didn't work for me. I'm not sure I would recommend this medication to anyone suffering with long term depression. There are newer and more effective medications available now....

Paxil works on depression in the beginning but wains. I even started to develop anxiety problems late in the course of taking this med.

The weight gain is a constant. If you are one of the unfortunate people who suffer from withdrawal from this 'nonaddictive' medicine, you're in for some real hell. It can be near impossible to stop, even when weaning off. I missed two days and had to lay flat. If I even sat up, the room spun, I puked. Standing wasn't an option. I wouldn't wish that year of trying to switch to another medicine on anyone. Even cutting the dosage down and spacing them out was hard to do. You may not crave the medicine like you do in a heroin addiction, but you need the Paxil to keep from getting really sick.
...

I am a former user of Paxil. It did not do much for my depression but I gained weight just looking at food. My weight used to be one of the reasons I thought my depression was so bad. Gaining weight is a bad enough side effect for most people that I think it should be off 'the list' of choices from the start....

moodyb21223 says "Paxil works good for about the first 6 months" about Paxil Antidepressant

Paxil comes in different dosage amounts. I started on 20 mg and have since moved up to 40 mg. The good thing is that you can get it for $4.00 at Walmart if you are only on the 20 mg dosage. It worked really good at first. But by the sixth month, it looses its effectivness. I spoke to my doctor, and he increased the dosage. Now that I have been taking that dosage for about six months, I feel that it is not having the same positive results. Other than that, if you just anti depressants for a short time, Paxil would be great for you....

I have been taking Paxil for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder since about the age of 14. Now, 6 years later, I wish my parents had looked a little deeper before letting me take this medicine. Yeah, of course if helps the OCD symptoms, but it's effectiveness is gradually declining, resulting in a gradual increase of dosage size. If I miss a day of this med I feel horrible (dizzy, upset stomach, hot flashes). More and more research is coming out about the effects of Paxil. I worry about the day when I become pregnant and have to stop taking it, knowing the horrible effects of withdrawal from it. It does help, but not completely....
