Paula's Choice Clearly Remarkable Skin Lightening Gel —

I purchased Paula's Choice Clearly Remarkable Skin Lightening Gel to help fade a few spots from former blemishes. The product comes in either a gel or a lotion formula. I selected the gel because I have oily skin and thought it would be a better lightweight option. Now that I've used the gel for over six weeks, I think I should have opted for the lotion.

What I Like About Clearly Remarkable Skin Lightening Gel

Effective ingredients (2% Hydroquinone for fading and 2% salicylic acid for exfoliation)
pH of 3 and opaque packaging to ensure that ingredients remain stable and effective
Works on discolorations such as freckles, age spots, melasma and blemish scars
Lightweight, non pore-clogging formula
Fragrance- and colorant-free makes it suitable for all skin types

What Needs Improvement in Clearly Remarkable Skin Lightening Gel

Gel Texture - The gel is definitely lightweight and goes on smoothly. However, the gel doesn't absorb invisibly into the skin. Even when you attempt to apply in a thin layer, the gel tends to sit on top of the skin.
Packaging - When I squeeze the tube the gel tends to release in a big blob (which is a problem given I'm attempting to apply a thin layer. More than a few times I've ended up with more gel on my hands than I could use. If that happens enough times, you end up wasting quite a bit of product.

Overall Impression

My overall impression of Paula's Choice Clearly Remarkable Skin Lightening Gel is that the ingredients in the product really do help to fade the look of blemishes. You do have to invest at least six weeks of use in order to see any benefits. Even then, none of the dark spots went away completely. I don't like the gel formulation at all, so if I use this in the future, I will definitely opt for the lotion version.

Great review and I'm with you--gels tend to sit ON the skin and they also tend to be a bit more sticky because they aren't absorbing as well.

I was never a big fan of Paula's Choice products but have only tried a few. Maybe the lotion works better. I think Jo wrote a review about a product that lightened well but I completely forgot what it was. DOH!
