I never thought I'd see the day when a piece of cake would make my eyes roll.  Well not only did I see the day(s), I'm looking forward to seeing more and more, and more of the same.  I'm normally not a cake eater.  I'd much rather have a nice juicy steak or a mound of pasta with homemade sauce.  Ever since I discovered Original Gooey Butter Cake from Paula Deen Baked goods, I can no longer say " I don't care much for cake."

Original Gooey Butter Cake is everything I would expect from Paula Deen, also known as the Butter Queen.  The package says it is a sweet yellow cake crust with melt -in your-mouth cream cheese filling, but to me it brings back memories of my childhood.  Without dating myself too much, does anyone remember when "penny candy" was actually a penny?  There were Mary Janes and Squirrel Nut Zippers, among others.  And there were also little candies that melted in your mouth that had brown and white wrappers with pictures of cows on them.  Well those "cow" candies are exactly what this cake tastes like.

Paula Deen's Original Gooey Butter Cake is available only at Walmart, claims to be about two (2) servings and is definitely full-fat, full-calorie, full-sugar, full-butter and not for the diet conscious.  I bought it for $4.00 and ate off one cake four times.  You cannot eat alot at once.  I even thought of other ways to serve it.  Did I mention Full-Fat?

Gooey Butter cake would be great to serve at holiday family gatherings.  Just two or three packages would serve about eight people.  Serve it covered with hot cinnamon apples and whipped cream or even with pumpkin or sweet potato puree and marshmallows.  I think it would also be good with ice cream and some kind of nuts on top.  The possibilities are endless.

As I change into a cake lover, I await more decadent goodies from a from Ms. Deen.  It even says "Best dishes from my kitchen to yours."

The cake is really good. I don't remember what the "cow candies" were called, I just remember what they looked like. They were small rectangles wrapped in that light brown and white paper with a picture of a cow on them. They melted in your mouth.
