"Gnarly little knob", I thought on the first lift to the summit. Admittedly, I came because of a free pass, but I left feeling ... gratified. Decent skiing, good food and roughly a 1 hour drive.
The problem with Big Mountain skiing is driving time and "skiing time", but PATS PEAK short steep is perfect for fifty-something legs to get up and down all night long. There are also carpet-lift beginner areas and cruiser trails down from the summit on both the far left and far right, but I came for the "Double Black Diamond" center cuts and tree glades which are perfect this season. Not a bit of ice, excellent lighting and hardly any skiers on a weekday night within 90 minutes of Boston.
