I had such high hopes for the Patricia Wexler Acnescription skin regimen, but on this day I officially surrender. I tried this regimen but it did not work for me. In fact, I don't believe there's ANYTHING on the market that can heal my skin and keep it from breaking out so I give up. You win, skin!
Over the years I've tried everything short of Accutane. ProActiv and AcneFree worked great, but only for a few months and I started breaking out again. I've gone to dermatologists, had my hormones checked, you name it. Everything is normal yet I still continue to struggle with acne every day and it's maddening.
About 2 months ago I read an article suggesting products for people who have aging skin yet still break out. That's me. I'm rapidly approaching 40 yet I still break out as bad and as often as when I was 15 years old.
The product line that was suggested in the article is Patricia Wexler's Acnescription regimen which is available at Bath and Body Works. So I visited my local BBW and picked up the Wexler Anti-Acne Starter Kit which contains small bottles of her Exfoliating Cleanser, Anti-Aging Serum, Oil-Free Hydrator, and Acne Spot Treatment. I also picked up a bottle of the Overnight Repair Lotion.
This regimen combines salicylic acid with some sort of exclusive acne technology called Acnostat and MMPi.20TM which is some sort of anti-aging stuff. Most of the products were very nice to use, they smell good, and felt good on my skin. They just didn't work for me. The cleanser is lightly exfoliating and feels good on the skin. It's very gentle and not overly scrubby or harsh and left my skin feeling clean. After cleansing I applied the serum followed by the moisturizer in the morning and then in the evening I cleansed, applied serum, and then used the overnight lotion. If I had a particularly troublesome spot, I used the spot treatment.
The only product I didn't like much was the spot treatment. The consistency was extremely thick, almost like cookie dough. It was crumbly as well which made it difficult to apply to a targeted area, especially when the serum or overnight lotion had not completely dried yet.
The good news is that I started to see a difference in my skin within 2 days. It seemed more pink, healthier looking, and my acne had started to clear up without leaving my skin looking like an alligator. I was so pleased that I went out and bought fill sizes of the products so I'd have them when the starter kit ran out.
The bad news, I started breaking out again about a week after starting this regimen and it's not clearing up with continued use of the system. It's been almost 2 months and things are not getting better so I give up. Fortunately this regimen comes with a money back guarantee so I returned it all to B&BW last night for a full refund which is a good thing as it is VERY expensive. The starter kit was $30 but the individual, full size products are very pricey ($16 for the cleanser, $45 for the serum $20 for the overnight lotion).
Bottom Line - I heard really good things about this product line but it did not clear up my acne. Your mileage may vary. Although this did not ultimately work for me, I recommend giving it a try but hang onto your receipt for that money back guarantee in case it doesn't meet your needs.
