Although you hear many bad things about Paris, the truth is, the majority of Parisians do not hate Americans! It's as simple as speaking their language- which is beautiful in itself. It is easy to getaround, it may take a day or two to get used to the Metro system, but no big deal if you have ever taken public transport before. It is a wonderful city to explore. Seeing the sights is, of course, a must, but just wandering the streets of Paris is enjoyable as well.

If you are going to go up the Eiffel Tower, go a little cheaper and at least walk up to the first floor. The views are amazing, and it's good exercise! :)

In response to NCjohn's comment from Feb 25, 2009 at 2:05AM:

Sorry, I didn't mean their whole language! :) I meant just attempting to speak Some of their language. And yes, I believe that you should try to learn SOME of the language of any country you are going to visit. I was a student of French and I never had someone be outright rude to me just because I tried speaking French. But, that is just one example, feel free to believe whatever you like.
And as for hospitality, we (as a generalization in America) expect every tourist to know English, and we get upset when they can't. One would even say we are sometimes rude. Therefore, I try to extend the courtesy of trying to know other languages when I am visiting other countries.
Sorry, perhaps I should have worded that differently! :) Have a great day!

As simple as speaking their language???? That's NOT simple at all! Should you have to learn the language of any country you want to visit? To make matters worse, it's commonly stated on the net (by students of French) that Parisians are often rude with tourists who try to speak French and don't do a good job of it. What happened to hospitality? If France suddenly lost all the tourists who don't speak French, their economy would take a terrible hit.
