I initially started using Good Start with my baby because I was sold on the "Comfort Proteins" (partially broken down whey proteins that are more gentle for fussy babies). After reading reviews on here about Parent's Choice, I bought a can to try. I started to transition my baby by making a daily pitcher of formula with 1 part PC to 3 parts Good Start. I even noticed that it smelled (and likely tasted) better than Good Start. My baby seemed to tolerate it well and I was happy! I was committed to making the switch until I read an article about the suggested amount of DHA in baby formulas. As most people know, all formulas contain the proper amounts of vitamins, minerals, fat etc. as regulated by the FDA, but DHA/ARA are not required and therefore no bare minimum requirement has been established by the FDA. I read an article stating this:

No, not all infant formulas are enriched with DHA. And of those that are, not all have DHA at what some experts say is a beneficial level. Experts recommend that all non breastfed infants should be fed a DHA-enriched formula in which DHA accounts for at least 0.2% of total fatty acids. Unfortunately, formula labels don't list DHA as a percentage of total fat content. So, make sure to read the label carefully so you buy a formula with DHA - not just any Omega 3 fat - at a level of at least 7.2mg per 100mL (0.2% of total fatty acids).

I checked out the nutritional info for this and found that PC (regular, not stage 2) had a level of 5 and Good Start's was 10. I chose to continue using Good Start until my daughter is 6 months old and then transition her to PC Older Infant (stage 2) formula with DHA & ARA as that one has DHA above the minimum beneficial level.

Of course, this isn't a major issue and nothing bad will happen to a baby for having the PC formula with 5mg DHA / 100mL. It wasn't until recently that formulas even included the fatty acids! Those of us parents that were bottle fed, definitely didn't have it and we're all alive. It's merely a personal preference of mine. For what its worth, even Similac falls short of the beneficial level of DHA.

Sometimes it is out of stock at the Walmart closest to my house but I think its just a problem with the store, not Walmart in general. I also wish that the PC Canadian website was up and running as the American one doesn't ship samples to Canada.

It's funny how many people are led to believe that store brands are "identical" to the name brands. Like you say nutritionally they are but it's in the manufacturing too. These actually have a different source of DHA than that of the name brands. Nice review of this formula. I'm off to go read more of your reviews.
