Parakeets make great pets. We raised them for a while. The young ones are the easiest to tame. The older they are the harder it is to teach them not to bite. But start with a young one and he will sit on your hand or shoulder, you can teach him to talk. Just keep repeating the same phrase over and over, soon your parakeet will be saying it too! They come in many colors, be picky! Get a color you like, and make sure he is young. You can tell the young ones have stripes on just above the beak, the older they get it starts fading. Have Fun!
Parakeets are a great small animal to own. They can be taught simple tasks, tricks and even to speak. The males are easier to teach than females but either one takes much patience. They are have beautiful plumage as well as singing voices. They love to play with toys and look in mirrors but you have to change them out once in awhile or they will get bored.
My sister and myself, always had pet parakeets growing up. It started 1st, when my sister recieved one for a birthday gift, and then I. Unfortunately, hers was sick and died 2 weeks after recieving it. She then went and picked out another, (for free from store since 1st one was sick), and that one actually lived for a couple of years. About 5 or so, believe it or not! This bird actually learned how to speak! Parakeets are in the parrot family, thus, they can learn to talk. The best way to teach them is by covering the cage, sticking your head under so that there are no distractions,...
read full review »I have had parakeets since I was age 3. After having parakeets for over twenty years, I am not sure I could adjust to anything else. While growing up my family was initially attracted to parakeets for their low maintenance and gentle nature. There isn't a lot of physical or financial responsibility for parakeets. Although I am sure they can be taken to the vet, I have never felt the need to do so. Without veternarian costs, parakeets are very cost friendly.
Through the years my parakeets have become my best friends. I currently have two. Although my parakeets love each other, they...
read full review »these birds i can say are good house pets. i have 2 Parakeets and they are just wonderful i mean they have some faults. like for example sometimes the mom might try to kill the baby bird she just had. in result to that you jus strap on some globes and get that bird out of their because that bird wil die.( seen that in past experience) also if you are ondering why wont they have babies already ? well the birds wont lay n eg until she has a nest and privacy. so buy them a nest and like put a sheet over the cage but not too dark because they cannot see in the dark. it might be weird but the bird...
read full review »Parakeets are great pets. They aren't that messy and easy to take care of. My parakeet just recently layed eight eggs. Five hatched, but only three survived. The other ones were duds. The babies grow extremlely quick. After 4 days they double their size. It has only been about three weeks and the babies already look like their parents. Once they are born there is nothing you need to do. The parents take care of everything. The oldest baby is even feeding the smaller ones now
I received this Parakeet from my daughter 2 years ago and I think it is a great pet. The only issue is that you must keep the cage clean daily. She talks to you and lets you know if she needs water , food or even just attention. When you place her blanket oveer her at night she knows that it's quiet time and you won't hear a peep out of her. She very easy to take care of and it not real expensive for her upkeep.
