Papillions are a whimsical breed. They possess a natural confidence which makes them social, engaging, interesting and inquisitive. Typically no shyness here, they do not shy away from social situations and interact well with dogs of all sizes, adults and children. They are a breed that is just as at home in a small apartment or large house. They can handle long walks or short outside time. They can be potty trained inside or outside as well as love to be challenged by learning tricks or memory games. They are not a yappy breed, yet do sound the alarm if something is amiss or a knock at the door. They typically will stay close to their owner in that they love to be social. Light eaters, will work for treats and can be part of a multi-dog or cat household. To be aware of They are a small dog with a delicate bone structure and even though they carry themselves like a larger dog exercise caution around larger animals, children and jumping off furniture. All of these can present situations that could harm your papillion. Socialize early with pets, children, outdoors, even businesses that allow pets. PetSmart and Petco allow you to both bring your dogs in plus offer training or doggie day care which also give you opportunities for socialization. This breed loves to please and will bond with its owners. They are a portable breed, small enough to accompany owner typically 4 lbs to 11 lbs. Great dog if you get to bring your dog to work.
