I joined Paperback Swap 18 months ago, after hearing about it from other readers at iVillage. Many of us were already members of BookCrossing, and - being avid readers - we were happy to discover a new site for swapping books.
At first, I was impressed and found the site rather addictive. I hunted high and low for books that I could add to my shelf there, and when I did, it wasn't long before requested. At the same time, I was having fun with my credits, ordering books that I'd been wanting to find and buying a few credits here and there to "supplement".
As the popularity of the site has grown, I've been spending less and less time there. The waiting lists for books and authors that I'm interested in have grown longer, and when it comes to the books that I have to offer, there seems to be so many of them available that my books remain on my virtual bookshelf for months before being requested.
Now, too, I've been told by others that members complain if a book isn't in nearly new condition. If I'm remembering correctly, the requirements are that the front cover is not missing and that there is no water damage, and that's good enough for me. For the most part, the books I receive from sites like this are ones that I'll read once and pass along...If I want a new (or new looking) book, I'll go out and buy one
