It's a great time to be alive, because that's precisely what Pandora offers:  radio stations that you easily train to be "smart" and which will only play music that appeals to your particular taste!

The Music Genome Project
My new hero is Tim  Westergren, who founded The Music Genome Project.  He and several techies and musicians set out to categorize all the music they could find by its musical attributes:  melody, rhythm, instrumentation, minor/major key.........all the things that combine to make a song "move" you or leave you cold.  We're all different.  By attaching multiple attirbutes to each song, the MGP categorizes music not by genre but in a much more intelligent way.  If you are moved by an Isley Brothers ballad, and give Pandora a thumbs up when it plays the song, this system knows to suggest a slow, sexy Marvin Gaye song for your radio station.   The more you teach it about what you like, the closer your own radio station gets to perfect...........for YOU.

When a friend turned me on to this, I was emailed a station she had created.   That's a little bonus:  you can share stations with others.   Best of all, you can create MANY stations.  I have one for hot country, one for sexy R&B, one for smooth jazz, and a couple of others.  You simply suggest a song to get the ball rolling - these are called "seeds" and give the Genome something to go on.

You can also play your custom Pandora station through your phone!   Like one particular artist a lot?   Set up a station in their name.   I love to play Pandora when I'm at home or working.........after all, it's MY music!   All me, all the time!   LOL   Even if these guys eventually ask for subscription fees, I will gladly pay them.  I am hooked (just like they knew I'd be!)   Smart going, Pandora!
