You wouldn't say that the design of of microwave oven or a TV was faulty if it got blown by a spike associated with a power outage, so your criticism of the PanDigital DPF80-2 seems overblown. I'm sorry you lost your DPF to a power outage spike, but that really doesn't mean that the product was not designed or built well. For enough $$$ you could include a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) and surge suppressor in any device, but it would not be economically feasible to include that much high-level hardware in a $200 picture frame. Oh, and btw - the onlne version of the manual does caution you to unplug the power supply when you are not using ["monitoring"] the product. I think you'll learn someday to unplug electronics when there is likelihood of electrical storms or anything else that might result in power spikes.
