Our old analog TV started to go bad and my husband started talking about getting a FIFTY inch TV to replace it.  I thought that was crazy.  No one needs a TV that big, I said.  Well, guess what?  He got his wish.  We bought a Panasonic 50 inch plasma TV.  It was fairly easy to put together, there is a pedestal that you have to attach.  You need at least 2 strong people to do this and also to lift the TV onto a stand.  Of course, it takes up much less room than the old televisions, since it is a flat panel.  Attaching my ancient VCR to the TV was a bit confusing, the directions in the book could be better for the electronically challenged!  We didn't really do much to change the color or sound, just turned it on and started watching.  We don't have HD in our home yet, but the picture we have without it is beautiful.  And also, I have become very attached to the big screen.  I feel like I'm in a movie theater.   We did purchase a 3 year protection plan with it also, since this type of TV seems so different to us.  So far, the TV has been great and we both really love it.  I would recommend it to others.

You can get HDTV for free... just put an antenna on your roof. If you live close to a city, you may just need rabbit ears. Most broadcast network (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW) TV shows are in HD and there is no charge to receive them. I always watch "Ugly Betty" and "Shark" in HD, and I don't have cable. Most football games are now broadcast in HD, as well.

The fact that over-the-air HDTV is free is one of the best-kept secrets in the country.
