I was in the market for a digital camera with a higher than your average 3x optical zoom. After reading numerous reviews, I settled on the TZ-3. As an amateur photographer, there is little that disappoints me about this camera.
This camera has quite a bit of power and several features, all packaged into a pretty small bundle. Granted, it's not as compact as many of the cameras on the market with your average optical zoom, but I've found it to be a lot better for taking photographs of nature.
As with all cameras, the more you zoom in, the more pictures can be distorted by movement. This camera does have an anti-shake feature but don't expect crystal clear images at 10x on a windy day or if you have a shakey hand. Still, I've had no problems getting amazingly sharp pictures of spiderwebs and other insects. The colors are fantastic and there are various modes and settings for more experienced photographers (or those who have gotten around to actually reading the users manual).
The biggest complaint I have about this camera is that the battery life is extremely short. I bought an additional battery for mine.
