Panasonic - Lumix DMC-FZ30 —

Worked ok for nearly a full year before suddenly dying in the middle of a shoot.  Ok for outside shots; really awful in low light.  Panasonic refused warranty work by saying the main board had "corroded" and i must have dropped it in a lake.  The camera was never within a hundred miles of a lake.  For the price, you can spend just a little more and get a good camera OR a lot less and get a good point and shoot, which is all the panasonic is anyway since the ridiculous scrolling menus make it impossible to use the features in any real setting.  Canon and Nikon and Fuji are good manufacturers.   If you insist on Panasonic, make sure to buy a warranty that  covers dropping it in a lake as they will probably try to weasel out of warranty coverage by accusing you of just that.
