With a few adjustments from the factory settings this TV is unbelievable in HD. Just after we bought it the Planet Earth series came on and we were mesmerized. Even old black and white movies are very sharp. You feel like you are right there. We don't know if it is the TV or the cable company but we often have to turn the volume way up to hear the voices over the background music. Seems like the background music is in the foreground. It's possible it just needs some tweaking.

We looked at a lot of plasma and LCD TV's before buying. We found the Panasonic looked consistently better than comparably priced TV's. We are very happy with this TV.

Go to the MENU, then AUDIO, then OTHER ADJUST, select SURROUND and be sure it is OFF.
This should help, I know when I have the surround ON then the background noise (crowd etc) is much louder and I can hardly hear the commentators during a football game or a NASCAR race.
I hope this helps. I have had my tv since Nov 2006 and still Love it. I did hook up a Home Theater system to it though. ccare34852@aol.com
