We bought this TV as part of a black Friday shopping spree. My wife and I never watch television, but we do watch several DVDs and VHS exercise programs every week. The contrast is excellent with blacks that look great at any angle and the color is rich.
We don't watch any HD programming or high definition movies, so I can't comment on the HD picture. I am a gamer and have hooked up my Nintendo Wii via component cables. The 480p picture is perfect, but there is burn in if you game for more than two or three hours at a time. This also occurs with any programming that places an icon on the screen that doesn't move. It isn't permanent, but it lasts for quite a while before fading. I wouldn't recommend this TV for a hardcore gamer, as the maximum resolution is 1080i.
However, it is perfect for our limited needs. I watch youtube videos through the Wii while eating and exercising, and it's works reasonably well as a monitor. It is fantastic for Wii sports and other Wii games that allow multiple players.
The speakers are decent, and the base is very sturdy. As with any plasma, you should be careful when transporting it and setting it up, but the picture quality is worth the extra weight and power consumption. If you're looking for a nice TV for occasional DVD movie watching and moderate Wii gaming at a reasonable price, this is a great choice.
