Excellent For Parmesan And Romano Cheese

If you are looking for a way to easily grate small pieces of cheese, the Pampered Chef Rotary Grater is a nice investment. It allows you to freshly grate cheese and hardened pieces of bread to make breadcrumbs but for softer cheeses you are going to have to take the whole thing apart and scrub it when you are done with it. I have used this for shredding cucumbers after I removed the seeds and skins but this is for smaller items. If you need to grate a pound of cheese or a whole loaf of dried bread you are going to be able to get it done faster and easier with a standard hand-held grater. I prefer freshly grated cheese when I am serving pasta so this was a great purchase; it isn't cheap but it has been in use for over three years with no issues. The cheese that is freshly grated has a stronger taste to it and it's so easy to use that it gets passed around the table and everyone can grate the amount that they want. I still buy the cans of the shaker cheese for the kids because if they had to grate their own cheese for a late night bowl of macaroni or spaghetti they'd skip the cheese all together. You can use this for grating nuts for cookies but you have to go through the nuts to make sure that there are no shells mixed in with the nuts. When I grate hazelnuts for cookies I use this but again, whether you are cracking the nuts or are buying them without the shells, you still have to go through them to make sure there's nothing that is going to dull the grater wheel. It is light weight and easy to use but there are some things that you aren't going to be able to grate in this; chocolate tends to get compressed instead of grated finely to be used on top of deserts so use a small hand grater for that.

Pampered Chef Rotary Grater - a huge disappointment!

3

When I met my husband and our single kitchens got "married" I was pleased to inherit some of my husbands kitchenware which included a Pampered Chef Rotary Grater. It looked practically brand new and I do love kitchen gadgets which make your life a little easier. I assembled the grater with the medium grating barrel and begun to grate my mild cheddar block of cheese onto my lasagna. I was a bit disappointed that the grater always left a part of the cheese ungrated as I do dislike wastage, even more though that the more frustrated I got with the process, the less grating occurred and the more smearing occurred. I was left with a metal barrel which had cheese smeared all over it and I had to soak in boiling soapy water to remove it. I really do like the concept of the design but in reality, it doesn't work as well as it sounds like it should. In addition the parts didn't snap together as flush as perhaps they should have and I was left with the undeniable clarity to place it back into the kitchen cupboard I found it in.

Convenient kitchen tool

I really like baking, cooking, and entertaining. A lot of times when I cook for friends and family I will make different types of pastas, and I don't like setting a bowl of parmesean cheese on the table. When I saw the Pampered Chef Rotary Grater during a Pampered Chef party, I decided to buy it as a way to make my dinners more fancy. After buying this, I realized that it can be used for more than just grating cheese. You can put any type of hard cheese, chocolate, etc in the top of the grinder, close the lid, and just turn the handle. I actually like using this the best to make garnishes for hot chocolate or coffee drinks. It definitely makes normally boring drinks look more fancy. I also like that this is very easy to clean. I just take it apart and put it in the dishwasher. I never had problems with anything breaking or melting from washing it in the dishwasher. Ease of Cleaning This is really easy to clean because I just put it in the dishwasher. Durability I keep this in a drawer with a lot of other kitchen untecils and tools, and I have not had a problem with anything breaking on the grater.

Too Much Work To Use and Clean

2

I know that you can buy cheese in blocks and pay less and also keep the cheese fresher for longer, so I wanted a cheese grater that was easy to use. This grater seemed like a good idea at first, but I think it's too much trouble. I think labor saving devices should not be so hard to work with. This is awkward to use and some cheese is left over in the cylinder that grates the cheese. I hate how that wastes cheese and I really hate the clean up. Ease of Cleaning My biggest complaint with this grater is that it is very difficult to clean. There is a cylinder with small holes in it that does the actual grating and after each use it is thoroughly smeared with tiny bits of cheese. You can separate the cylinder from the rest of the tool to clean it, but it still requires a lot of scrubbing and I really don't feel every morsel of the leftover cheese has been removed. Design This design seemed cool to me at first, but I just don't think it works. You need to cut up your bar of cheese into smaller chunks to fit into the mechanism and that adds to the effort. Also, it is a little awkward to assemble this gadget each time you need to use this.

pampered chef rotary grater

The Pampered Chef Rotary Grater is a useful tool for grating cheeses, vegetables, chocolates, and more. I frequently use this tool when preparing salads, I will wash and cut my vegetables into small chunks. Then I put the chunks into the rotary grater, and I toss my salad with small grated amounts of fresh vegetables. I also do the same thing with fresh grated cheese. This tool is perfect for topping a dessert with fresh grated chocolate; it makes grating easy to do. The handle is easy to turn and makes teh work nearly effortless. Ease of Cleaning This tool is fairly easy to clean. The inside drum comes out and it is easy to rinse. THe rest of the tool can be wiped down by hand. Design The pampered chef rotary grater is very durable. I have had mine for almost two years and I Have had no issues with it not working. It is very reliable, I would recommend it to any one looking for a grater that is easy to use.

I don't use this often

3

It may be my cooking regimen, but I don't find myself using this very often. Some of the things that I thought it would work for (grating up carrots, etc) don't seem to work so well. If you put anything into the hopper that is not solid, like a block of parmesan, then the food just rolls around inside rather than being grated, no matter how hard I squeeze the handle. It is nice that it comes apart, that you can use various barrels, and that it can be assembled for either a lefty or a righty. However, unless you use a lot of hard cheese in your home, I'm not sure that it is a great investment. Ease of Cleaning It disassembles and is dishwasher safe. It is very easy to clean Durability It has held up well, though admittedly, I haven't used it that much. Design I think it is ingenious that you can switch out the barrels and that you can assemble it for use with your right or left hand. I wish there were little teeth in the presser part of the hopper that would help hold the food in place and keep it from spinning around.

To hard to deal with.

I have had this product for a year now and I really don't care for it. I thought it would be great to have but I now think it was a waste of money. I wish I had kept my cheap-o Wal-Mart grater. The product works okay on most cheeses but for soft cheese you end up with it all getting stuck to the inside and I have to take a knife to get it all out. This is also very difficult to clean. Cheese gets stuck all over the insides and no amount of picking or soaking seems to help. I find that I would rather cut my cheese into little cubes by hand than to have to fight with cleaning this product!

Not my favorite in the Pampered Chef line

2

As a former PC consultant, I can quite honestly say that this is not my favorite kitchen tool.  I have it, have both sized graters, and the measuring attachment, however, I often found that the product did not quite live up to expectations.  During demonstrations, it often malfunctioned - when using softer cheeses it was sort of a dud.  It was recommended that one try to add a spritz of olive oil to the grater before working with softer cheeses, but that seemed to make the cheese clump, and it was sort of messy.  For harder cheeses it works fine, but for softer cheeses it is questionable.

Handle doesn't stay on

1

I am extremely disappointed with this Pampered Chef rotary grater. I had high expectations since their other products have worked for me, but have been so disillusioned by this latest experience, it's possible I'll never order from them again. I picked up the rotary grater at a local community fair where a consultant had her goods out on a table. My old PC grater lasted almost 8 years but broke in the handle and wasn't covered by warranty. So when I saw this, I thought it would be a good chance to get a new one. I also ordered an oven mitt that she would have to order and send it to me. The oven mitt didn't come to me for 7 weeks and that is with multiple email reminders. I tell this information so you can understand my dread in having to contact her again. I used this cheese grater a few times and found that in grating cheese, the handle would fly off (usually across my counter) so much so that I was trying to angle and adjust the pressure that I was holding the grater. After the third experience (not third time the handle fell off -it flew off at least double that), I decided this wasn't worth the frustration and was going to call customer service. The customer service person was not able to help at all. Without the show or order date (despite having the consultant number), he couldn't process the return at all. What happened to product guarantee? This is a Pampered Chef item and it is clearly defective. I explained the consultant's lack of previous contact, but he couldn't or wouldn't help. I am highly disappointed with Pampered Chef and would have expected their higher prices and quality would stand behind their products. Apparently not.
