Palermo's Ultra-thin crust pizza - special edition —

My boys can't seem to cook anything but frozen pizza. I know (and you know) that they could manage some other things, but if I'm not there, then that's what they make (if you can call heating up a pizza making something). In light of our reality, I try to keep frozen pizzas in my too-small freezer.

We had not tried Palermo's (which is darn hard to spell - for some reason), but it was on sale. I'm game for anything new. My boys will eat any frozen pizza, though they will sure complain if it's not so great.

I put the Palermo's in the freezer, and it got heated up quick - no surprise.

The crust was the best part of Palermo's. It was crispy and had a brick oven kind of "feel." It was thin, and I know it doesn't go as far as some of the thicker crusts, but I'm fine with that when the crust is really good. This one, I liked a lot.

The sauce was very good. I'm picky on those. If they taste like straight up tomatoes, then yuck. That's not sauce. Palermo's was tomato based but seasoned with a good balance. It rated with the best of the frozen pizza sauces.

Toppings. Very good. Lots of pepperonis, which is about all I can buy and keep my guys happy. They pick off anything that looks green or mushroomy. I like the multi toppings, but I've about given up on buying them. Easier to get pepperoni and be done. In this case, there were lots of pepperonis, and I appreciated that. With a thin crust, the meat added some filler for teen boys.

One test of a pizza is COLD. I had part of slice of Palermo's that was left over. How that happened I do not know. We seldom have any pizza left over. Cooked too many I guess. In any case, it was very tasty cold, and I very seldom find one that I can stomach when cold. This one was good like that. I wouldn't do it for breakfast (like my sons), but it was good at room temp after being there a while.

I definately have Palermo's on my "to buy" list. I do generally look for sale prices and then get one of a few that we all like. A lot get on the "do not buy list." This is NOT one of those. It's a tasty frozen pizza. I liked it, and the boys did too.

George,
You're so right! Definite guy thing, cold pizza for breakfast.

I agree with your sons; pepperoni is the only way to go! I'm nearly half a century old, and I still can't abide anything green or mushroomy on my pizza. :-)

I've eaten plenty of cold pizza. It's a guy thing, Cyndi! :P
