NOVEMBER 6, 2008 UPDATE.

Johnson and Johnson has referred me to this "affiliate".  If you want Paquin's back, e-mail your comment/plea, etc. to:  consumerrelations@mccus.jnj.com

Read this and wring your dry hands.
Most recently in the custody of Johnson and Johnson, Pacquin Plus Hand and Body cream  has disappeared.  If you want a jar, I found one just moments ago on Ebay (more on that below).
  FYO: Here's a copy of my e-mail to J & J.

It's a shock to me that the Pacquin skin care product line has suddenly disappeared somewhere within your organization.  (One 8-oz jar of Pacquin Plus is currently going for $67 and counting on Ebay!)
For years Pacquin products have been a word-of-mouth product, long unadvertised but remembered by people who began using them decades ago when they were on the cutting edge of hand and body care.
Is this quality item too expensive to produce?  Does it seem undeserving of an ad campaign that would do it justice?
Does it work too well and, perhaps, conflict with less-expensively produced J & J items that don't work as well but have much larger profit margins?
I would appreciate hearing from you.  There are more people than you might imagine that care about this.
  Many thanks for your attention.

Original review
Back in the Dark Ages -- when I was growing up in Chicago -- the winter wind whipped the moisture out of our hands and faces without mercy.  A nurse friend of Mom's told us about Pacquin and our love affair began.
There are several formulas, but if chapped hands are your issue (as they are mine), Pacquin Plus is the one to choose.  Glycerin and lanolin are among its components, but whatever the contents, they combine pleasantly in an almost whipped-cream way.  Within a minute of application, there is no stickiness, and tight hands start to feel comfortable again.  Even in California, I apply it nightly and rarely have to reapply during the day.
Pacquin Plus used to be easily available at drug and department stores.  When I noticed it was starting to disappear, I began hording what I could find.  Then, eventually, it "disappeared".
In recent years, Vermont Country Store, has offered Pacquin Plus at what I'd call a premium price.  Not minding economically-priced three-packs, I now order up to four packs (yes, 12 jars) at a time on Amazon.com.  Last Christmas I divvied those jars out among friends who "have everything".  Several people have requested more this season.
For me, the important thing about Pacquin giftgiving and spreading the word is the hope that Pacquin won't disappear for good.

Hi,
My favorite and I also would order 10 jars at a time online from drugstore.com. I am now ordering the incredients and have done a lot of research online about how to make hand cream. Gonna give it a go as nothing that I have found is any good compared to Paquin's.

I just wrote Johnson & Johnson again. I miss this cream deeply, and have wasted money trying to find something that compares....there is nothing out there. Shame on Johnson & Johnson.

A good friend of mine told me about how special Pacquin was for her, her mother, and her mother's mother. It really struck a chord for me, and I talked to a friend of mine who's a world-class chemist. He agreed to work with us to develop something that does exactly what Pacquin does - effectively creates a silk glove for your hands without that oily feeling! But now we need your help. Would anyone out there be interested in helping us develop this product, creating the name, designing the label, and things like that? Most Sincerely, Steve - ZebraSkimmers@Yahoo.com

How could they stop making this wonderful product. I have tried numerous other hand creams/lotions and would still come back to my Pacquins. It would really bother me on vacation when I would forget to pack it along, thinking I would be OK. I would then have to use to other stuff. I could hardly wait to get home to my Pacquins. If I were staying with friends/family I would have them keep some around. Is this like being addicted to carmex ? What happened to my old friend.

I went today to buy more Pacquin and was told it had been discontinued. My teen daughters use it daily (as do I ) making them the 4th generation in our family to do so. My mother always kept a jar by the kitchen sink, and so have I. For the last several years I have only been able to find it behind the pharmacy counter at our local Kmart, but never thought that it would some day be gone. It is so much of our daily routine, and it will be sorely missed. We have tried other products over the years, but none could hold a candle to our dear Pacquin. When I called J& J today, they said "I'm sorry", and recommended 2 Aveeno products. Sorry, but no. Bring back Pacquin!

You got what you paid for. What you really wanted was probably the Pacquin's for Dry Skin, Pacquin's Plus. The one with aloe is oily and pink! I can't use it and can't find the other any more. If you can help me, I would appreciate it. Thanks karakay

LLSummerHudson wrote on Feb 26, 2009 at 9:10AM

Actually, I need some help. I purchased a jar of Pacquin's Plus with Aloe off e-bay for my 85 year old mother who should have been able to enjoy it for the rest of her days, as she has been usng it at least all my life (57 yrs). When I got it, it is creamier and it is PINK in color. Is this really what it says it is? or did the seller fill an empty jar with something else and charge me $21 for 4 oz? Please, if anyone can let me know, so I can give the seller a very bad review if he/she has been dishonest. Thanks, llsummer@swbell.net

Here is a petition to bring back Pacquin. http://citizenspeak.org/node/1489?PHPSESSID=8a733d55a27220762418510036029254

I have called J&J only to receive their polite "Sorry!"

Thanks for writing. I have to agree with you. Pacquins worked so well, J & J HAD to get rid of it. If you get a chance, tell them what you told me. I'm just feeling really pestiferous about this. If you find a good solution, let me know. My Pacquins supply is getting low.

Sailboat wrote on Feb 23, 2009 at 6:58PM

Pacquin is gone...period. I have found three jars of it at three different independent Pharmacys. It's a pity....even over on Amazon it is listed as one of the items to send to the military. Probably because it is NOT sticky or greasy and absorbs quickly and works well with with one appilcation. Shame on J&J for discontinuing it.

In response to wildstock's comment from Jan 30, 2009 at 11:22PM:

Hope you'll send a copy of your comment to the address given in my review. I'm just never going to be ready to give this up, and I only have two jars left. At least we're both stock-pilers. Thanks for your interest!

wildstock wrote on Jan 30, 2009 at 11:22PM

sure would be nice if they would bring back out with a new name and package. I get together with several others once a year to buy it by the case. I have been trying to find a substitute for nearly 20 years, it has gotten harder and harder to find but I haven't stopped following it whatever it takes. Nothing works better for any of the women in my family and we've all looked for years. PLEASE
don't take this off the market. Seriously dry skin conditions don't even respond to perscriptions I've tried. It is great on excima (I can't spell it but it is great for it and feet too.) BRING IT BACK just advertise and let us know where it is. I suggest magazines like More and those for the Old with long memories. A seperate product (with the same ingredients and a spiffier name, package and smell might bring in a whole new clientel. Good luck on a big come back. Try sending free samples to Opra and Stars over 40, If it work for them they will come looking for it too.

I also am dismayed from the demise of Paquin hand cream. It is the best that I know of. Have been using it for years.

OH MY GOD, I'm looking back through your reviews and you got 15 helpful votes for this. I'm so proud of you, I don't think I've EVER got 15 votes for anything!

In response to butote's comment from Nov 21, 2008 at 10:21PM:

Hurrah for you! Rattling corporate cages is a good thing, I think. I looked up an old favorite lip balm today and discovered the little family company that made it (for many decades) now belonged to a big pharma corp. Sure enough. The entire formula for the lip balm has changed. Pleasing the customer doesn't seem to be very important to these big guys.
Are you getting comfortable with Viewpoints? I've been writing for several months and am still getting acquainted with my OWN site. Finally got the photo stuff figured out. (Am obviously not a good "read the directions" person.) Anyway, WELCOME!

butote wrote on Nov 21, 2008 at 10:21PM

I am also a long time user of Pacquin handcream. I am shocked that they stopped making this wonderful product. My mother also was a long time user. I am so happy to hear that I am not alone on this one. I am going to call J&J and follow it up with an email. Power in numbers, lets get this back!!!

Thanks for your comment. Great to find another Paquin's fan! If you have a moment, e-mail manufacturer at www.consumerrelations@mccus.jnj.com and let them know that you want it back. It's always worth getting the manufacturer's attention. Who knows? They may sell the recipe to someone who puts it back on the market. We can always hope.

buddycat wrote on Nov 21, 2008 at 1:28PM

Just did some research and put new info on my Pacquin's review. Johnson and Johnson bought Pacquin out from Pfizer, so I'm aiming my e-mail and phone calls there. Thanks again for your new information. 'fraid big business may have put the final kabosh on our great product.

All I can figure is that Paquin's must be too good for them! Another gal gave me the following # to call regarding our continued desire for Paquin's : 1-800-223-0182. There's also an online forum at: amazon.com/tag/paquinshandcream/forum. Time for a little action!

NatalieLee wrote on Oct 31, 2008 at 1:49PM

Natalielee. Pacquins is/was(?) the best hand cream ever! I'm 76 and I've been using it all my life; my mother was using it; that's how I was introduced to it from grade school on Do I need to say more!? I
think an ad campaign is a good idea for Pfiser, but let's write to Pfiser too.

In response to TheLastHousewife's comment from Oct 15, 2008 at 8:20AM:

Thanks for the info on Paquins. I guess I thought it would always be somewhere... Anyway, I'll follow through on your J&J phone number and Amazon forum. I've never understood why J&J didn't get with it and launch an ad campaign. Thanks!

TheLastHousewife wrote on Oct 15, 2008 at 8:20AM

J&J has discontinued production of wonderful, wonderful Pacquin hand cream --as you say, effective, long-lasting, non-greasy and non-sticky. J&J may bring it back if consumers show sufficient interest. PLEASE CALL the J&J consumer products line at 1-800-223-0182 and tell them you need Pacquin now. Follow the discussion at amazon.com/tag/pacquins hand cream/forum! Please join our efforts to revive this extraordinary product.

GEEZ, is this a blast from the past or what?? I remember MY Mom using it too. I always thought it Pacquin's had a unique quality about it. You say you got it from Amazon? I might look into that, especially with winter coming.
