I do most of my animal supplys shopping here. It is a wonderfull place to take your animals. The people there really do care and they help out in any way they can. You can find almost anything you want for your pet and if they don't have it in the store you can always shop online! Some of the... review »

Most of the reviews here contradict what you will read at other review sites and if you pay attention to what you really encounter at a petco.... To sum up a long list of negatives best consider this... When you find a label that says "New low price!" the truth is that the price has actually been raised....

i was a former employee at PETCO's grooming salon. For now, im going to call it the abuse center. SO, i worked at this abuse center (PETCO) for 5 months. i am also a grooming salon owner who was looking to make a few extra bucks. I later witnessed a 4 month of puppy being hit 3-4 times in the face where the tooth went through the lip. the reason he did it was because the puppy would not stay still for the nail clipping. so he jerked her little body around and she got scared. she she tried to get away and he hit her. i held the sweet thing in my arms while it was shaking like a seizure! puppies...

I go to PETCO to have my Llasa Apsa groomed and they do a wonderful job.  The price is very reasonable so I wouldn't change a thing about their grooming salon.  You also earn 1 free groom for every 8 times you pay for it.  I do however have a problem with their dog food and treats.  Their prices are incredibly high compared to the supermarket. I go to my Giant food store and I pay about $2.50 for Beggin Strips.  Petco charges $4.99 for the exact same 6 oz bag.  I buy Nawsomes for about $2.99 at Giant food store but Petco charges an astounding $6.09 for the same exact size.  They have very... review »

I decided I wanted my cat, sozo, to be groomed. I thought it would be a wonderful experience for him. I expected for him to have a nice warm bath with nice smelling shampoos and to be handled great. I also expected they would use a special pedi-paws or something to clip his nails. I paid $65 for him to get a bath and get his nails clipped and painted. I was HORRIFIED at what I saw when I went to pick him up! He looked downright miserable and his paw tufts were cut off and his nails were splintered, not to mention the cut on his hind leg. His nail "polish" was NOT what I expected-it did not cover...

Petco just plain stinks.

I worked at the St.Louis Petco stores for over four years as an assistant manager.

The quality of the livestock they purchase is horrid and the shipping and handling they employ is criminal.

Animals commonly arrive dead or near death from the shipping.

The bottom line minded corporate morons know nothing about the pet industry except how to milk it for as much profit as they can get by with.

Their best employees are usually fired for bullshit reasons to replace them with cheaper less experienced employees.

Employee theft is rampant.

Training in animal care is virtually...

If you have a pet, you must go to this store.  It is the greatest store.  Depending on where you go these stores can be huge and have things for horses as well.  I have a smaller one where I live but they still have a great selection.  I take my dog and he picks out his toys and his treats.  He also loves to smell the chinchillas (I'm not sure how they feel).

Petco grooming in Colma, California chopped my two poodles and had no remorse.  My rescue poodle that I've had for 2 years is highly acceptable to razor burn.  They were told for health purposes not to clip his body, only trim the top of his head, clean his face and paws.  The only thing they did was shave his body to the skin. Didn't even wash his face or touch the hair on his head or paws.   They were told to give my red poodle a poodle cut.  The only thing they did was scissor chop his body and gave him a flat top with strands of hair flipped over his eyes.  They both looked like mutts...

Be very wary of buying pets here! I have visited some pretty atrocious stores in many different cities that would scare anyone who knows how to properly care for the animals they sell (and maybe some who don't)! They seem to frequently give out advice that promotes items they sell, regardless of the safety of the item to your pet. Of course, you probably wouldn't expect anything different from a large commercial chain.

If you do find an animal you have to have, just remember to find some reliable sources of care, besides the store employees. And keep in mind, just because a product has a picture...

Their tropical fish won't last a month!!  I've even spoken to the manager because I can't stand seeing dead fish in the tank.  Can't someone get them out???  Instead these young kids walk around and talk to each other instead of working.

Dog/cat food prices are very high as well.  I can do better in my local supermarket.

I've had my oldest shih tzu groomed at multiple Pet-Co locations, due to convience to where I was living and previous experiences. My dog is about 11 now and has been groomed since a puppy, never have had temperment issues with her in the past, nor have had any complaints. Don't get me wrong, if someone is mean to her, she cowers, but has never bitten. During this grooming experience back in October she was treated horrible, when we went to pick her up from grooming, it was her worst cut ever. Just wanting her to be touched up, we asked that she be fixed, it'd basically take a quick shave, closer...

Where I live, there are not many choices on where to buy your pet supplies, and even fewer on where to buy pets. Petco has very good prices on supplies, and always seem to have whatever I need in stock. They are fantastic on that end of the business. The other part of the business, which really disturbs me, is the amimals for sale. They have 16 year old children who have no clue how to care for them, telling you all about them. I was standing next to a woman who wanted to buy a reptile for her son. The employee recommended a burmese python, saying they were sweet snakes, and only got to be 5-8... review »

I called the grooming department at Petco on a Friday asking if a need an appointment to trim my Cairn terriers nails, ears, feet and butt area for Saturday. I was told no problem. I called Saturday and was told the groomer was not accepting anymore dogs I would have to wait until Wednesday.  I stopped in the store without my dog on Saturday and no one was in the grooming department for the 30 minutes I was in the store. I have since found a professional groomer. DO NOT HAVE YOUR DOG GROOMED AT PETCO!!!!!

Petco Grooming in Jupiter, FL.  This is a new store but the grooming manager shouldn't be new to the business.  My regular groomer recently had surgery and closed her shop for a few weeks and I was desperate.  My Shihtzu needed a bath and a trim badly, so I thought I'd give the newly opened Petco a try.  I went in and decided to ask for the grooming manager to groom my dog, figuring she had the most experience.  I was apparently wrong.  After dropping my dog off at 10:08 am on a Sunday I was told my dog would be ready by 1:00 but they would call if he was ready earlier.  I didn't get a call...
