PETCO —

I went into my local petco and bought food for my puppy.  I asked at the time if I could use a coupon to get my money back as the manufacturer was going to send me a coupon and I did not have it yet.  The manager said yes and I was satisfied.  When I went in to take care of it I was told I could not do it.  I was mad because the previous manager told me I could.  I am going to get a free bag of dog food but buyer beware because one manager says yes does not mean they will help. The regional manager also told me no and said the reason was because the coupons have no value and they cannot give money back, can't they just do a return?  Crazy thought. You cannot speak to anyone above the regional manager if your complaint is not resolved either.  I will never shop their again not to mention other places are a lot cheaper and have more helpful staff.

there is no set rule on the acceptance of a coupon after a purchase is made. it is up to the manager's on duty decisions. just because one approves doesn't meant the other one will, and of course the regional manager is going to say no, they are at corporate level, they already have your money, they are pretty much done.

In response to KinKStar's comment from Dec 22, 2008 at 10:02AM:

I have three dogs and this was by far NOT my first experience at a pet store. I have lightened up on them after getting over my anger. I will not shop there again but the manager was nice enough to give me another bag of food that my dog currently eats. I have known of a few stores that allow you, with your original receipt, to use a coupon after the fact. It is not something I recommend doing but there are a few out there. I now shop at Petsmart because I actually found it to be less expensive and the people more helpful. Our Petco store is sadly understaffed and it is hard to find help there.

You say this food was for your puppy, so I'm guessing this might have been your first experience in a pet store. Perhaps you are under the assumption that this is a unique policy, but I don't know ANY store that accepts coupons AFTER a purchase hase been made! It's probably much more likely that the first manager simply misunderstood your question when he agreed.

Hey, it's not like you can't still use the coupon, right? I mean, you still have the puppy to feed, right? Lighten up and give them a break!
