Clive Barker's Undying is a horror themed first person shooter set in 1923. the game is centered around patrick galloway and the covenant family and their family curse. the game begins with patrick on a boat recalling the events that had transpire during the war. it turns out that patrick is headings back to his homeland (Ireland) to lend assistance to his friend and former army buddy Jeremiah covenant who is slowly dying from a mysterious disease.
during the opening scene patrick metions he fled from Ireland, which is kinda suprsing since the player doesn't know any about him except he use to serve in the military (army) and now specializes in paranormal agent. once patrick arrives at the convenant estate, he meets with jeremiah who explains the reason why he requested partick's help.
when they where kids jeremiah and his four sibilings; ambrose, twins bethany and Aaron, and the youngest lizabeth. while playing through the estate the children come across a strange book in their father's library and performed a ritual found within at an ancient set of standing stones, directly located off the coast of their family's estate. what began as a inncocient game had resulted in a evil curse being placed on the children, once they reached adult hood each fell one by one. lizabeth died first, then ambrose, then bethany and Aaron except they didn't stay dead. each sibiling had re animated and want to kill jeremaih so they can bring fourth the undying king.
during the course of the game partick has to deal with the four undead sibilings and his arch rival otto keisinger the man resposnible for running galloway from irleand. the player has a array of weapons and magic to use in the fight against the curse and it's minions. I like the scrye spell which allows players to physically and hear past events. players can get spell upgrades throught the game which comes in handy for the boss fights.
the game's soundtrack is amazing, it really sets the mood for the game. the enemy's AI is good the enemy's present a fair challenge. the acting is superb, each actor gives a stellar performance and convays true emotion of the character's without going overboard.
the graphics are good although the main character's walking and running is hilarious
there are only two things I didn't like about undying is that it wasn't made into a ps2 or xbox game, or the fact that the game didn't have a mulitiplayer feature.
I would recommend this game to anyone who likes a good horror themed first person shooter, if you can find a copy.
