I added PS, I Love You to my last book order as an afterthought. It was only $7 and the fact that it was being turned into a movie convinced me to add it to the list. After reading the story in two days, I have to say that I am happy that I decided to buy this book.
PS, I Love You is about Holly Kennedy and her struggle to survive her 30-year old husband Gerry's death. She can barely drag herself out of bed and shower, let alone think about eating, working, etc. Her family and friends are very worried about her... and then she receives a large envelope from Gerry. It contains 10 small envelopes for the next 10 months. Each one contains a short message from her husband with instructions for her to do various things: perform in a karaoke competition, buy a fancy dress, go on a vacation, get a job, etc. Each envelope helps Holly to take the next step to move on with her life after Gerry's death.
This is a fast and easy read. I tore through it in just two days during standardized testing at work. I found Holly's journey to be interesting, although it got to be a bit of a drag after awhile to keep reading about how miserable she was. The author includes a potential romantic interest which had me really looking forward to the ending of the book... but things didn't work out the way that I expected. That was the one black mark for me on an otherwise excellent story. I would recommend PS, I Love You to anyone looking for some easy reading.
