You know whwn the water is hot!

Wow! When the water is hot, this sounds like a vwry loud train whistle. The filling cover fits very snuggly and can feel like it is stuck when you try to remove it to fill the pot. The easy tilt handle easily opens the spout providing easy pouring. There is a lot of steam that escapes from the spout when pouring, so it can cause steam burns if not allowed to cool slightly before pouring. The pot does retain hot water for quite some time after warming. I have found that if I turn off the burner under the pot just as the whistle starts the water is hot enough to make tea in tea bags or instant coffee or in recipes that call for boiling water. Because it is a stainless pot, it is tough to keep spotless clean unless you wipe it down dauly or more often. The pot can get streaks on it because of the stainless, so unless ypu absolutely love the look of stainless and ate devoted to keeping it clean, it can be a challenge to keep it looking nice.

Mediocre Kettle

3

I was initially very excited to get this kettle. I drink tea regularly and sometimes make coffee for guests with my French press so I often need to boil a relatively large amount of water and pour it easily into cups. The OXO Good Grips Uplife Teakettle is a medium sized kettle as far as kettles go and the weight is well balancedby the handle. I really like the clean look of the kettle, which is dominated by stainless steel and black plastic. The off-center placement of the "door" on the top of the kettle helps prevent me from over filling the kettle, always leaving some room at the top. And while the kettle does have many admirable qualities, I do eventually plan on replacing it. I am starting to realize that the pieces of the kettle don't feel that securely held together, particularly the hinge door for pouring the water. Also I'm really that satisfied with the combination of materials and how the plastic attaches to the metal. A kettle is a very simple kitchen appliance which has a single function, to boil water. My ideal kettle will be more simple in design and will be made of a single material for simplicity and the prospect of it being better contruction. For the price that it costs I would recommend looking at other kettles.

i LOVE this teapot - the one i have is slightly older, i think - it has cork instead of the black grip stuff, but it's still phenomenal, and i am a total convert to the oxo teakettle. i like oxo products in general, but never knew they made a kettle until i stumbled on it. my previous requirements for kettles were that it had to have a lid into the belly of the kettle - i use it sometimes to steep tea directly in the pot with a tea ball, so it's easier to clean that way. but the handle of this kettle is what completely seals my undying love for it - it pops open the spout for pouring, and never EVER has burned my hand with the steam - no oven mitts required!!!! my old kettles always leaked or burned me with steam, but this one never has. i have used it daily for about a year, and - seriously - i hope that when (if) this kettle ever needs to be replaced, oxo will still be making it. honestly, i've been considering buying a second one just in case oxo ever stops making these.

I love this teapot!

I used this teapot at my sisters and now I want to buy one myself it is so great! It boils water quickly, but the best part is the handle. You tilt the handle down to open the spout and it stays open for easy pouring. My old teapot often made my hand uncomfortable from the steam but this doesn't happen here.

Oxo uplift is an excellent kettle! Never get steam burns again!

No buttons, no scalding hot metal and no more burns!  The uplift tea kettle makes tea time a joy! The spout opens when you pick up and tilt the kettle to pour - what a concept!  This is the only tea kettle I will ever buy again.  I've had this kettle for several years and loved it.  It pours beautifully - no drips.  It's so easy to use and so logical. Like all of the good grips line, the handle is made with a nonslip comfortable surface.  The stainless steel exterior is easy to keep clean and the oversized lid makes it super easy to get at the inside (just in case, like me, you have horrible tap water that leaves behind all sorts of stuff).  It also comes in enamled colors, if you don't like the brushed stainless.  I've had both and the enamled version (any of the colors) is even easier to clean. The whistle is less shrill than other kettles that I've had - I think this is a good thing but it does make it harder to hear if you're on the other side of the house.
