Over the Shoulder Baby Holder Baby Sling/Wrap Review

The Over-the-Shoulder Baby Holder is one of many slings on the market with a similar fundamental design. Made of a long strip of fabric with two rings attached to one end, the fabric slips through the rings and holds securely in a sling shape. But of the several similar options available, the thing that distinguishes this sling in particular is that the "tail" end of the fabric is sewn together into a strap, rather than hanging free as a bunch of fabric; and one side of the sling is padded, to make the wearing more comfortable. However, both these "improvements" ended up being drawbacks.

The strap ensures that the sling can only be tightened to a certain point; after that, the strap won't fit through the rings anymore. This was especially frustrating to me, since I liked to wear the sling particularly tight, holding baby close and making sure it felt very secure. I was often frustrated that I couldn't tighten the sling any more because of the strap. And rather than making the wearing more comfortable, I found that the padding made it feel awkward to me. I couldn't seem to situate the sling in such a way that the padding rested comfortably on my shoulder, so I was always adjusting it.

Yes, the wearing takes some getting used to, and that will be the case with any sling. But the advantages of slings are wonderful, including the convenience of being able to function with two free hands and of always having baby close. There are a myriad of styles, and each has its own quirks. But after several years of using the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder and researching all the other slings available, I believe you will be better off with another style that is similar to this one but without these particular quirks, or with another style altogether.
