I grew up going to the Outer Banks, so it is a complete shame to have to bash it now.  It used to be a lovely beach, reasonably priced and family friendly.  Now it is a money making machine only.  The beaches are really crowded and the houses are outrageously expensive.  Forget about riding bikes along the shore road as people are driving crazily and fast, and it is really dangerous to let your kids try to walk to the beach alone!  Parking is horrible if you are not staying close to the beach, also.  But if you love to shop at Walmart while on vacation, they have a huge one!  Too bad such a nice historic place is such a mess now.
