Traditions-The Woods Family Christmas Tree-
True Personalized Ornaments That will Last Forever
Sorry, I couldn't keep this too brief but I hope you enjoy the our idea of what we consider to be a True Ornament that will let your tree grow with Love and Memories year after Year!
This is how to recreate a Woods Family Christmas tree that will live on forever and continue to grow with your Family, if you let it and make it!
Every year, from the time the kids were babies till as time continues, once they were old enough ( before that I would make them for them). I would have the kids make a picture ornament with their name and the year on it for them. After they were about 2 I would cut the shape and the picture and do what they couldn't yet but that still got to decorate it, then I would laminate them.
Once they were in school we would use their school picture and cut it in a shape to fit the ornament they chose to make. The ornaments would be made with whatever we had on hand that year construction paper, felt, shining wrapping paper, gold, silver, red, green, blue you name it usually cut into a shape from balls to stars to angels to trees whatever they wanted to make their ornament into for the year.
Before they became very creative and artistic, we would use cookie cutters for the outline and cut an oval or whatever in it to inset the picture between the two shapes glued back to back Then they would decorate it with glitter pens, paint, markers, colored pencils, crayons... whatever they wanted.
When they were done I would then laminate them and use a small paper punch for adding a ribbon hanger. They are all in college now but I will use those ornaments till the day I die.
Talk about beautiful and precious memories and a Special tree that is truly unique..
Since they also always wrote their name and dated them with the year, we have a sample of their best handwriting every year.
Everyone always adored our tree and found it quite unique too. We would add some glitter balls to it that we made out of Styrofoam balls with ribbon hangers that we would then attach ribbon to the tops for hanging and the lights.
It was always a fun Christmas project for the kids that will live on forever. I always tease them that they are mine until the day I die and then they can have their ornaments. Of coarse they know I'm not kidding and they are o.k. with that, knowing how much I love them and the yearly ornaments.
The hard part of it all is having to take the tree down every year. How I'd love to keep them up but then we wouldn't have the joy of decorating the tree the next year. As they are now away at college and one living out of state due to her job, everyone would hang their own ornaments every year. Some years we get lucky and it sill happens.
It really got fun as they got older ,They would really get a kick out of their ornament and pictures, and their handwriting.
If I ever get Grandbabies the tradition will continue. In my home and I'm sure in theirs too. I'll just have to get a bigger tree.
Sorry I don't have any pictures at this time to add, but I think you'll get the picture anyway (no pun intended) and the beauty of it. It sure makes the tree come Alive with such Precious Memories.
You can always play catch up if need be or just start the tradition this year. Whatever you choose to do, you'll never regret it and your ornaments and trees are much more family orientated then some fancy collectible ornament bought at the store for a small fortune and a number limited edition.
Our tree is covered with those! There is only one difference! This is a real yearly limited dated collection, Yes, I got my 2008's this year, even though 3 of my kids are College graduates and 2 are College Students!
They love the tradition as much as Mom and Dad. The only difference that has occurred through these last couple of years is that now, they insist that we have to make one too.I am Camera shy but it gets done anyway.
I no longer mind it, It just shows me that they want the tradition to live on and want Mom and Dad in on the action so that they have memories too. I guess they realized that we aren't getting any younger
.Our Pets have had one made for them every couple of years, too. Then we have one of our Grandmas and Grandpa's before they passed.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years in April. It's never too early to start.
