Comments about OtterBox Defender Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab, Black:
The Otterbox for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is my first choice for a cover for my tablet. I bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 instead of the Tab 3 because at this time, Otterbox only makes Defender case for the Tab 2. I had planned on this because I was pleased with the performance of Otterbox on other electronics I own. I am equally as pleased with The Otterbox Defender for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. It is like a sturdy second skin for your Tab 2. The pieces of the Otterbox Defender snap into place over your tablet and you are ready to go. It encases the back and sides of the tablet, leaving the screen open for touch browsing.
The Otterbox Defender for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 does a great job of protecting this tablet from impacts, spills, nicks and any general wear and tear due to everyday handling. And when you are not using your tablet, there is a cover that snaps over the top of the screen to protect it.
The Otterbox Defender for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 does not block the sound from the tablet; volume and sound quality are good.
The Otterbox Defender for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 does not interfere with charging the tablet. There is an opening to place the charging cord. When not charging, there is a rubber flap that can close up the opening to keep it clean.
The Otterbox Defender for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is very sturdy and durable. I feel comfortable dragging my Tab 2 all over the house and also carrying it in my bag and using it when I am away from home. It has already protected my tablet from spills and nicks and bruises.
Ease of Use
The Otterbox Defender for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is easy to install. The pieces just snap together to cover the back and sides. The screen cover is easy to take off and put on. You can snap it on the back of the tablet for safe keeping if you are using it in your lap. If you want to stand the tablet up on a table, you can use the screen cover to do so. It has plastic pieces that fold up and snap into place to create two different settings. You can stand it up almost upright or you can use a setting that leans the tablet back at an angle. The Otterbox cover does not in any way interfere with taking photos or shooting videos. The sound on the video is loud and clear. Since you can access the screen by taking off the cover, there is no interference with browsing or texting.
The Otterbox Defender for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 has a very nice design. It provides a snug fit over the back and sides of the tablet, leaving the screen free for touch browsing. There is a sturdy cover that snaps over the front of the Tab 2 to cover the screen when not in use. This cover is black like the rest of the Otterbox, so you can't see the screen when it is in place. This cover doubles as a tablet stand. There are openings for most of the ports and buttons on the Tab 2. Most importantly, there is an opening for the port for charging the Tab 2. The one negative is that there is no opening for the small USB port designed for a USB memory card. I called Otterbox about this and they said they decided not to put an opening there in order to ensure the strength and integrity of the cover. Their reasoning is that if you are going to add a USB card, you will be doing it on rare occasions where you can take that part of the cover off and replace it. So far, I have not used enough memory to require getting a USB card, but when I do, I will just open up the cover and install it and then snap it back into place. Because of the lack of an opening for this USB card, I gave the Design an 8 instead of a 10.
