Oster Bread Machine ExpressBake 5838 Review Summary

"There is nothing like the smell of bread breaking," and with the Oster Bread Machine ExpressBake 5838, you can have that smell around your home every day! Reviewers want you to know that "if you have never used a bread machine, you do not know what you are missing." You only need to place the ingredients in the pan, set the color and bread type you want, and the machine does the rest of the work. Reviewers like the Oster ExpressBake 5838 so much, they say if it ever dies, they're "going out to buy the same one again!" Some reviewers don't like the squarish loves of bread the Oster makes, so they allow the machine to make the dough, then bake it themselves in the oven. It's easy to clean with just a pan paddle to be cleaned. Admittedly the ExpressBake 5838 is more expensive then some other brands of bread machines, but reviewers love Oster products. Using this Oster Bread Machine is "like living with Grandma."

I am in love with my Oster breadmaker. The one I had before was good but created oddly shaped loves that were difficult to slice. Not the Oster, it produces loaves that are "loaf" shaped without the difficulty of baking.

If you have never used a bread machine you do not know what you are missing. Place...

The timer on this bread machine (Oster Bread Machine ExpressBake 5838 ) does not work with the Dough setting!  This is not mentioned anywhere on the box, in the product description, or in the manual so the only way to find out is to try it and find that it doesn't work.  Even the lady at customer...

My husband bought me this bread machine almost 4 years ago for Christmas and I can't rave about it enough. First of all, the bread is delicious. The instuction manual is very clear and precise. It adapts well to other recipes. And on top of that, I have been using it at least once a week (sometimes more than once a day) this whole time! If it ever dies, I'm going out to buy the same one again!

I got my breadmaker! I decided to write this review because I've "tried" to make four loaves of bread with it. I'm not giving up on it yet because I did lots of research on it, now that I own it. So let me just tell you my experience.

I love Oster products. This is more expensive than some other brands but this is the one my kids gave me for Mother's Day. I believe that they made a good choice....with ulterior motives!

This breadmaker can make 1 lb., 1 1/2 lb. and 2 lb. loaves of bread. I tried all three. The one loaf that came out good was with the 1 1/2 lb setting.

There are 18 settings for different...

As a homemaker, mother, grandmother & wife for 44 years.   I have owned many brands of products.   I have found that thru the years, the Oster products are the best quality, longest lasting appliances I have ever purchased.   My Oster Bread Machine performs exactly as it states it will.   It is easy to use, easy to monitor, easy to clean and I have never produced anything from that machine that I have not been proud to serve.   If you want quality, reasonable price for the product and someone who stands behind their product, then I soundly suggest that this product will be an outstanding... review »

I really really like this bread machine.  I received it as a wedding gift from my grandma.

Lately I have been making the bread on the dough cycle, taking it out, putting it in a pan, letting it have a last rise, then baking it in the oven.  The loaves are beautiful out of the machine as well, but they are awful square.  I do like this one more than one that my mother owned, this one makes horizonal loaves, hers made vertical.

I really really like the expressbake feauture.  The only con about this is I buy my yeast in bulk, and the quick-rise machine yeast is significantly more expensive than...

I got this a few years ago like 5 or so I think.  I love it.  At first  I used it for the whole start to finish of bread making because I kill yeast.  Now I use it just to mix since it does a better job than I do.  I like to make braided breads so only have to have it mixed up but if in a hurry since my kids like fresh bread I make it for them or they start it themselves, it is that easy.

Is easy to clean which is good since I don't have a dishwasher other than my own two hands and is just a pan and paddle.  Remember to take the paddle out when you take the bread out, I forget to do that...

when I first got the breadmaker I used it all the time----bread was just like homemade-

simple to use just add mix and water to machine and turn on for great bread.

have had my machine for 10 years never had a problem.

however in the last year boxes od bread mix are harded to find in grocery stores.

I have had the Oster Bread maker for 9 years.  It is still going strong!  We use it at least once a week for pizza dough (throw in the ingredients and an hour and a half later you have pizza dough ready to roll!) and once or twice a week for bread.  We've made jam, we've baked bread, we've baked whole wheat bread.  You can set the timer to have bread ready when you wake up in the morning or when you come home.  I have not used the express bread settings but every feature I've tried I love!  Definitely a plus for any busy family, and ours is no exception!  I am all ready to buy another when... review »

I'm not that great in the kitchen, but loved the idea of a bread maker after seeing my sister's. First I tried a sunbeam & it was awful, so I returned it & bought this one, worried it wouldn't be any better. I was so pleasantly surprised!! It is so easy to use. I ran out & bought a bread machine cookbook & have tried several recipes. I love baking bread & trying new flavors. It even makes jam! I never thought I would make my own jam, but it was so easy. Now all my friends ask when I'll be bringing them more oatmeal bread & peach jam. I never have to worry, I just put everything in, turn it on &...

What a great product, it is simple to use and fun way to get kids involved.  They love to make homemade pizza and pretzels and this machine does it great.  Not much time involved to use and has great tasting results in the end.

This Oster bread machine is easy to use.  It comes with easy directions and great recipes.  All you have to do is follow the directions and you will make bread like a pro.  There is nothing betterthen waking up to the smell of fresh baked bread.  The price is reasonable.  The recipes are easy to follow and are made with ingrediants you will find in your own kitchen.

This breadmaker makes great dough for making real "homemade" breads. I use it to make the dough for rolls and various shaped loaves, and all my friends and family "ooh and aah" over the creations. This machine has held up very well and the recipies I've used from the book that came with the machine have been better than those of my previous breadmaker.

This is my first breamaker. I have always just made homemade myself. As I rather have homemade than store bought. My husband decided to buy this breaddmaker for Christmas to make things easlier. It mixes, kneads, rises. It works great. And you can make different kinds of bread, plus rolls. I would recommend this breadmaker to anyone.

if only I lived with my grandma she would cook me dinner, bake bread, mop the kitchen floor, etc. But she is so old now she can't do those things, but I long for the smell and taste of fresh bread. Aha, the bread machine. An easy solution to our busy lives and lack of skill to knead bread, rise, knead, I have no idea what to do.

I love, love, love my Oster Bread Machine ExpressBake.  I use it at least twice, if not more, times per week.  I am what you would call a functional cook/baker.  I do what needs to be done without a lot of frills.  When this was given to me for Christmas, my husband swore that it would either stay in the box until we had a garage sale the next summer or that I would just use it once and forget about it.  He has never been more wrong.  I use it more for the dough setting.  I like to make pizza dough, bake and then pop it into the freezer for an easy dinner after a busy day.  Or save the...
