This Ortho Max Insect Killer is pretty powerful. It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water. It is helpful to have some type of pump sprayer that mixes the stuff for you, rather than trying to shake or stir it. It is messy and I'd recommend mixing it outdoors, away from pets. It is for outdoor use. The directions tell you how many tablespoons to add to how much water based on where you are going to use it. For example, if you just want to spray your lawn in general, "Mix 1.5 to 3 Tbs (0.75 to 1.5 oz) per gallon of water sprayed to cover 125 sq ft". If you want to spray around your plants, "Mix 3 Tbs (1.5 oz) per gallon of water. Spray plants until thoroughly covered". It says it kills over 150 insects, including fleas and ticks, for up to 6 weeks. It also claims to kill on contact, "guaranteed". The main reason I use this stuff is ants. Our lawn has been infested with fire ants for years. We've tried everything. Seems like whatever we use, it kills the ants that run out of the mound but the ones deep in there just move a few feet over and rebuild. This year we've also had a problem with the big black ants and these little tiny red ants that eat our dogs' food. So we mix this Ortho Max stuff and spray the mounds pretty thoroughly. It definitely kills on contact, not necessarily immediately but within a minute or two. And it seems like the mounds aren't resurfacing as quickly this year. Okay...I admit I do use a little bit more than recommended, like 3 1/2 - 4 Tbs. But those little devils are hard to get rid of. It definitely works for ants!
