Reviewers are reaching a split decision regarding the Oreck XL Vacuum. Many agree that it's a great unit, but what they don't agree on is whether it's worth the price you will pay, as one of the more expensive vacuums out there. One of the big advantages to this vacuum cleaner is that you can "go from carpet to floor and back without having to adjust the height." The most remarkable feature is that the Oreck XL is so lightweight, that it's "easy to use throughout pregnancies," even to "carry a baby in your arms" while cleaning. To keep the Oreck XL running well, one user has had to send it in for tune-ups every few months and feel that shouldn't be unnecessary when dealing with vacuums. Additionally, the replacement bags can only be purchased at specific stores. Even with the few negatives, the majority agree the Oreck SL vacuum is a "very sound investment." Most HelpfulI purchased my Oreck XL 4 + years ago. I have to say it's the best vacum I have ever owned. I used to end up purchasing a new vacum every 2 years if not sooner because they just seem to stop working well after awhile. This is not the case with Oreck XL. It cleans as well today as it did the day I bought...

Most HelpfulOreck XL - too expensive, too expensive to repair, too big of a mistake.
I believed all of the commercials for this item and spent money I shouldn't have spent on it. It is not nearly as powerful as they make it look on TV. It doesn't suck everything up and it barely gets into the corners.
I...
review »I am not happy with the Oreck. It is an expensive purchase and does not work well. The rubber strip at the bottom burns out so I have to replace it often. It doesn't pick up everything on the rug. And it doesn't work well on floors. I am unable to get into corners or under the bed/couch. Getting replacement bags is inconvenient because I have to go to the specific Oreck store. Replacement bags can not be purchase at the general stores such as Walmart or Target. The only benefit is that it is light to carry.
I purchased the Oreck XL 7 years ago for $300 and got the "free handheld vac and cordless iron" to boot. My vacuum has lasted well these years in the process of 4 relocations and lots of vacuuming after pets and children. The cordless iron bit the dust 2 years ago, but I wasn't happy with how it didn't stay warm. My handheld vac has worked well in cleaning out the vehicles as well as indoor carpeted stairs. But here recently, it seems to have lost its suction power. But back to the upright...
I like how I can go from carpet to floor and back without having to adjust height. And I have had high...
review »The Oreck XL hypo-allergenic upright vacuum is a purchase that I never regretted. My first XL was purchased 12 yrs. ago and it finally was "put to rest" 6 months ago. I repurchased same model but of course newer, and have not regretted the move. The price might seem high but it paid me back many times over.
As a senior, I found that the light weight feature was very important to me. The suction is very good. I can clean on carpet and wood and tile floors. The only things I've had to change out were the belt (once in 5 years) and the disposable dirt bags. I think the most exciting thing about...
review »The Oreck XL upright vacuum cleaner is the best and my favorite vacuum of all time. Now that they moved the on/off from the bottom to a switch on the arthritis-friendly handle, it's perfect. It weighs about 8 pounds and steers like a dream. The little brushes on the side edges of the vacuum at the bottom are great for getting in close to walls and underneath furniture. Also great is the fact that it comes with an extra belt stored right in its own spot on the bottom of the vacuum. Headlight is helpful and since the footprint isn't too big, you can get in and out of some of the tightest...
review »The oreck xl is lightweight, and powerful with great suction . It will make your carpets look like new again with just one sweep. You barely have to move the oreck xl at all. It glides accross the carpet with ease. The oreck lk offers you a lifetime warranty, and a free yearly tune-up, it also comes with a free year supply of vaccuum bags , and four belts , carpet fresheners for you to put in the cleaning bags. Also included are two free bonus gifts of a cordless iron and a hand held vaccuum for your furniture with various attachments. You also get a year supply of bags for the hand...
review »I have owned my oreck Xl for 4 years now. Before the oreck I have owned inexpensive from lo9cal dept stores to rainbows and kirby's for over $2000 and the oreck was bought for me because i had just had hand surgery that caused permanent weakness, so it was purchased for the "lightweight" feature. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!! it is so light weight my 3 yr old granddaughter can push it. it has never lost suction and it came with a free light weight cannister vac. with a shoulder strap. did i say free? so i bought mine on QVC which enabled to me to put it on 4 easy payments. and since I am now on disability...
review »The Oreck XL MiscroSweep Cleaning System vacuum is great! I used to have a Kirby and am so glad to finally get rid of that beast. It would even scare the dog. Now I am a proud owner of the Oreck XL which only weighs 8 pounds, has lots of suction power and two speeds for floor or carpet. It has a antimicrobial protection. Easy to operate. Easy to change the filtered bags. Has side sweepers to sweep the dirt/dust away from walls. It sucks up pet hair with no problem and is just an overall wonderul vacuum to have in your household.
I really like the light weight of this Oreck vacuum -- I have back problems, and this is the one vacuum I've used that doesn't kill my back. It's even better than a self-propelled vacuum. The only thing I don't like, and this applies to almost all vacuums, is that it doesn't get under low ledges very well.
