Felt I was "taken"

too busy to make beds, neat freak, picking up after pets, a PC User, a low risk investor

I couldn't agree with you more. I bought this very same model, thought it would be the answer to my prayers dealing with mult. pets and children. While I found the vac to be light (when the bag wasn't full), and it did also work well on hard surfaces..there were many more draw backs. The bags, like you say, stunk! Not only that, but the clip that held the bag on actually broke. I also had to take to cutting the stuff off the roller. I found it a pain to have to constantly go and get another vac to use the "tools". I swear the thing ate threw the belts, did a horrible time sucking up dog hair. It required servicing within months on getting it. I took the worthless thing to the vac shop here in our town and the lady told me that they acutally refuse to service these things for several reasons, but 1st being that orek didn't always hold up to their end on the warranty work, and 2 they just required so much time, she abso. said that she wished I had called and asked her opinion, or at least find out if they worked on this model, because when asked it is on the list with the phantom vac. as a brand that they will not recommend, costs so much and just doesn't perform. I finally got in touch with the Oreck dealers myself and was told that as far as they were concerned their product worked wonderfully, and I had to have had (excuse me) an extrememly dirty home for it not to function well. I about fell over and told the man, yes I have animals, thats why I bought the vac. to keep the dog hair undercontrol (told him should have put a warning on the box if it wasn't meant to pick up hair) and that up until I purchased this lovely product my home and carpets were clean..after the orek they were so horribly dirty I was embarassed to let anyone see them. Unforty., this product and the "death" of it (ended up in the garbage can) started me on my "quest" to mind a vac that worked and took me two more models of the same brand, and several hundred dollars to find one that(so far) works.
