I broke down and purchased an Oreck about 15 years ago. I have never been disappointed with the unit, and the service is fantastic.
First of all, it is lightweight and I can easily pick it up and carry it from my master bedroom closet all the way around to the other end of the house to my home office. It picks up better than any other vacuum I have owned. I absolutely love to use it. I also like it because you do not have to adjust it when you move from a carpet to a bare floor.
They recommend you take it in for a tune up every 3-6 months. At first, I did that. The Oreck people are fantastic. They clean the unit, change the belt, etc. They are very nice and always offer to carry the unit back out to your car. After a couple of years, I stopped doing the tune up thing and just purchased some extra belts and replaced them myself. My unit has performed just as well after all these years. I have never had to have the machine repaired other than the tune ups.
The only downside is the cost of the replacement bags. They come in a package of 12 and the price is steep compared to your normal vacuum cleaner bags.
I would recommend this machine to anyone looking for a great vacuum. If and when this one ever dies, I will replace it with another Oreck.
