Odd texture

1

I used this product per the directions for one meal and used a different technique the 2nd time since I didn't like the way the potatoes turned out the first time. I mashed them and they never really got cooked all the way in the microwave. I kept tasting them & steaming them in the microwave and they tasted so strange even with making mashed potatoes out of them. I added butter and milk per the directions as well. Never tasted potato like these before. I also tried them in potato salad. Again, strange texture to the cooked or steamed potato. Sorry, I wanted to love them as I would eat potatoes anyway everyday.

They USED TO BE amazing

1

Once upon a time, they were great! They were rich and creamy and fluffy and they tasted exactly like homemade mashed potatoes. BUT, some time in the last 6 months, they changed something because now they NEVER mash up right. They are grainy and the flavor is all but gone. They do not taste anything like they did when they first came out. I don't know what they did but they need to undo it because unless they fix it, they lost my business.

I tried Ore-Ida Steam N Mash Russet Potatoes and found them to taste really great. The texture of the potatoes, however, seemed gritt instead of smooth like homemade mashed potatoes would be. I added milk and extra butter to get them to the smooth texture my family likes, and they enjoyed eating them.

Mash potatoes without the fuss

**Ore-Ida Steam N Mash Russet Potatoes are great. They have now become a staple in my freezer. I was skeptical at first of frozen mashed potatoes but one night after walking the ailes of my favorite supermarket wondering what to have for dinner I stopped in front of the frozen potatoe section of the supermarket frezzer section. I am very familiar with Ore-Ida french fries, in fact they are the only brand that I buy. So I thought I might try the mashed potatoes. I was afraid that it might be complicated to prepare but I was so wrong. Ore-Ida Steam N Mash Russet Potates are the easiest way to prepare mash potatoes. Just put the bag in the microwave, wait a few minutes, remove, put in a bowl and add some milk. Then you just mash, mash, mash. So simple and yet so good. Ore-Ida Steam N Mash potatoes are great for a weeknight meal but could just as easily pass for something special on the holidays. **

This is the most fantastic idea ore ida has come up with and my family enjoys almost all the different types of potatoes that they make but this one is designed for busy moms who want there families to have delicious home made mashed potatoes in less then a third or even more time saved then that.  In less then approximately ten to twelve minutes I think it depends on your micro wave you have already steamed potatoes that you did not have to peel, carry, cut up and boil or you need to do is take it out of the bag.  You put it in a big bowl and add milk and butter and use a mixer and in less then ten minutes they have fantastic mashed potatoes that taste like you spent a good hour cooking them on the burner.  I keep an extra package in the house and now we have them on a regular basis when in the past I could not serve them that often as I had to remember to buy a bag then come home peel it and boil it and that took almost an hour where not pronto ore ida does it for you Great idea.

New favorite!

My husband loves mashed potatos. Mostly I think because I'm a big "from scratch" cook. That's all well and good, but peeling and boiling potaoes before you ever get to the mashing part get's old fast. I found these and thought I'd give it a shot. my husband couldn't tell the difference! They are real potatos. Just a huge time saver Each bag will serve 3-4 people. They are a bit high, but worth it to me. If you need a quick side, this is for you. Easy, and taste just like homemade. Keep in mind  I'm food snob. I was amazed! I haven't bought a bag of potatos once since I discovered these.

Mashed potatoes which are convenient but delicious!

I can hardly believe that there was a time, decades ago, when nearly everybody who cooked ended up peeling and boiling potatoes at least two or three times a week.  Those were the days ... when it just seemed a routine thing to do ... and the end results were almost always delicious.  Nowadays, with busy two-income families or casual cooks like me, there are a lot of mashed-potato lovers who yearn for the homemade item but have neither the time nor inclination to make them.  For those people, help has arrived -- ***Ore-Ida Steam n' Mash Potatoes***. ***Ore-Ida*** is the gold standard for potato convenience and quality and this product is no exception.  You don't even have to puncture the microwave-safe bag to vent -- just stick the darned thing in there with the seam side up and microwave on high for ten minutes (meanwhile, there is one less boiling pot to take up a burner on your regular stove -- a fact which can mean a lot during the preparation of a big dinner).  For safety's sake, wait a while and then follow the instructions to open the very hot contents, pour the 24 ounces of quality potatoes into a serving bowl, mash and stir in butter, salt and pepper.  Really you can hardly tell these from the "real McCoy." **STATS:** A single serving (3/4 of a cup) contains 80 calories with zero calories from fat and zero Cholesterol.  There are 260 mg. Sodium, 170 mg. Potassium, 17 grams Total Carbs, 2 grams Dietary Fiber, zero Sugars, 2 grams Protein, 10% (D.V.) Vitamin C and 2% Iron.  The ingredient list is reassuringly short, consisting of potatoes, salt, and disodium dhydrogen pyrophosphate (used as a preservative).  **TASTE TIP:** ***Ore-Ida Steam n' Mash Potatoes*** look like someone worked hard to peel and boil them.  Like your own potatoes, you can control what is added to them.  I can testify that they were just as delicious by adding a couple spoonfuls of [Promise Buttery Spread][1] and 2% milk instead of butter and regular milk.  They were just as good with hardly any salt added and just a little coarse ground black pepper.    [1]: http://www.viewpoints.com/promise-Buttery-Spread-review-f4355

Delightfully Easy

I received a coupon for **Ore-Ida Steam N Mash Russet Potatoes **prompting me to try them although I was sceptical. I am not a huge fan of instant or dried potatoes but I was simply delighted by the ease and taste of this product.  Steaming in the bag is wonderfully convenient and you simply add butter and milk and mash.  I would say that one bag provides just about enough for my family of four as we are huge mashed potatoe fans (but who isn't).  I made a pot roast dinner for christmas eve and simply served it with Ore-Ida steam n mash because it was quick, easy and delicious.  I did however peel and mash potatoes for christmas dinner the next day. Partially because we had a large crowd and I did not want to be microwaving 3 bags of potatoes but also because fresh potatoes seemed right for christmas day. I am a huge fan of this product and will continue to buy it. I love it with a cottage or shepherds pie because you just need to brown your meat, make gravy, steam your potatoes and you have an instant hearty meal.

This is the easiest way to make terrific REAL mashed potaroes!

I usually rely on instant mashed potatoes for a quick fix but I was having a dinner party and needed something more upscale. I purchased two bags of the cut russet potatoes and made them just before serving the main dish, ham. Boy, did they go over big and Steam and Mash has me hooked!

Convenient!

I just bought and tried Ore-Ida Steam N Mash Russet Potatoes last night for the first time.  I thought that they were a little expensive given what they are....potatoes, but then took in the fact that they did peel and chop them for me.  So they are priced alright for what you are buying which is convenience. The small cuts of potatoes are steamed in the bag when you microwave them for 10 minutes.  Then you remove let set for 2 minutes and add to butter and milk and then mash them or beat them with a mixer.  I found that the mashed potatoes got cold after allowing it to set 2 minutes as directed and then mixing them.  I had to reheat them in the microwave before I served them.  They tasted great and had a very good smooth texture.  The way they tasted surprised me.  I wasn't expecting them to taste as well as when the are freshly peeled and cooked but they are just as good.  Good job Ore-Ida. The label says that your imagination is your only limit with what you could do with this product.  So it got me thinking about what else I could do with it.  Potato Salad!  Why not?  I haven't tried it yet but I am going to give it a shot because steaming and peeling potatoes for a huge potato salad makes me very tired.  I'll let Ore-Ida do it for me.
