There are many ways to book online travel, and one company that enjoys widespread popularity for researching and booking travel is Orbitz.com. This popular travel service is rated highly by consumers for its ease of use and the ability to find travel information on a wide variety of places and travel means. But in spite of the popularity of Orbitz.com, the site is criticized for its customer service and for not always offering the best prices. Comments range from “I Got a Great Deal on Airfare to the East Coast From Them” to “I Won’t Use Again, Confusing to Figure Out”. It adds up to a mediocre Travel Web Site that may or may not suit the needs of consumers.

Do not call Orbitz for reservations. Use the web or don't use!

We recently were without internet service on a long trip, and I called Orbitz to make reservations for the next night. I have successfully and happily used their on line service. I will never do so again because of this experience! When we arrived at our reservation, I happened to see the rate on the sign in sheet! I was SHOCKED by the difference in what Orbitz was being charged and what they will charge me. It was more than 25%. I understand the need to charge a reasonable booking fee, but this was outrageous. This past spring (2007) I wanted to return to Pittsburgh from Hawaii to attend a retirement dinner then continue on to Hartford, CT to visit my daughter and grandkids. I checked several web sites but found that Orbitz was most user-friendly (especially related to additional stops - eg. Hartford) and had the best fare. In fact, I got a truly amazing fare - round trip Honolulu-Pittsburgh-Hartford-Honolulu - of $600. At that time I knew people paying that to the west coast from Honolulu! I have only used Orbitz once and I won't make that mistake again. I usually use Travelocity and Priceline, but I thought I would give Orbitz a try and see how it compared. I was planning a weekend away, and when I found a good hotel at a great price on Orbitz I was thrilled. But then I clicked to book the room and it mysteriously jumped in price by about $40/night. I got a little pop-up that said the original price was no longer available and this was the new price. I didn't want that price, so I left the site. But I was suspicious. While taking a shuttle to LaGuardia Airport on June 27, 2007, Orbitz called me on my mobile phone with a heads-up that my flight was delayed by a half an hour. A storm was rolling in. Orbitz called me again and again and again with a recorded message of the now obvious situation. Even at 1 a.m. Orbitz called to tell me of the cancellation of my flight. With a low battery, now 7 hours into the wait, I shut off my phone. Hysterical, I joined the rest of the stranded herd wherever we could find some comfort. Dont believe Orbitz hotel rating. They market 3 star hotel as 4

Orbitz makes you feel like you are getting a good deal on a hotel by marking a 3 star hotel as 4 star. We booked a hotel (Century Plaza hotel and Spa) in Vancouver B.C which orbitz claimed was 4 star. The hotel rooms and service were more 2 star quality. We asked the hotel front desk on what was the star rating on the hotel and they confirmed that it is 3 Star. Feel that my experience with Orbitz was stressful and though I felt the price was fair the actual procedure was hard to follow and on their end there was an error made after the purchase of our tickets, when we made it to check in we had no tickets in our names and had to repurchase our cancelled tickets. This website is a great tool for researching travel, motels, car rental and etc...But you can definitly find better deals out there by going to other websites. Beware of the motel pictures. The motels pictures are taken at different views and are not as the look. I HAVE USED ORBITS BEFORE FOR AIR TRAVEL AND HOTEL SERVICE AND I GOT AN INCREDIBLE DEAL. ESPECIALLY FOR THE HOTEL (2 NIGHTS AT A BEST WESTERN FOR $75.00) TODAY I PURCHACED ONLY AIR FARE AND WAS PLESANTLY SUPRISED WITH THE PRICE ESPECIALLY WITH THE HOLLIDAYS SO CLOSE. This is a good site to plan a trip but I have never booked through them as I can review the places I want to go and see exactly what they have to offer and then I contact the hotel or resort or airline personally and I always get a better price than the online price. Orbiz and other internet agencies make me sick now. Everyone knos you can get better airfares on direct airline web sites. Not friendly to travelers who reside overseas

I used to be the customer of ORBTIZ for the past few years and it was great. Due to personal reasons, I have to reside overseas for a while. I've chagned the billing address of my credit card which is issued in the u.s. and still valid. The ORBITZ representative told me that they don't accept a foreign billing address of credit cards not listed on their web even if they are issued in the U.S. So that means I can't book anything on their web in the future until I move back.
