Orbitz Review Summary

There are many ways to book online travel, and one company that enjoys widespread popularity for researching and booking travel is Orbitz.com. This popular travel service is rated highly by consumers for its ease of use and the ability to find travel information on a wide variety of places and travel means. But in spite of the popularity of Orbitz.com, the site is criticized for its customer service and for not always offering the best prices. Comments range from “I Got a Great Deal on Airfare to the East Coast From Them” to “I Won’t Use Again, Confusing to Figure Out”. It adds up to a mediocre Travel Web Site that may or may not suit the needs of consumers.

Intro
I've been using the internet travel service orbitz.com since 2003, which during that time, it was somewhat revolutionary. Now, it may not be as so, but it still keeps me satisfied enough that I don't need to go searching elsewhere. Looking for cheap flights that met with my desired times to fly,...

I would recommend Orbitz travel services, but with precautions:

Orbitz travel service (you can replace "Orbitz" with "Travelocity" or "Cheap Tickets"--they are all the same!) was once a great place to find a bargain.  Sometimes it is still effective, but buyer-beware: their tickets are not always cheaper!...

If you like to travel, then there is a very good chance you have utilized the internet and its many travel- related web sites. I have used most every travel site in cyberspace at least once, or so it seems. But there are a few I use more than others and one is Orbitz.com, a full- service travel web site.

Travel Site Commentary:

From the home page, Orbitz.com is ready to launch you into the flight search function. This is the standard default, since most people use this service for flights. However, you can quickly click the appropriate place and search for a hotel, car rental, cruise, and...

We recently were without internet service on a long trip, and I called Orbitz to make reservations for the next night.  I have successfully and happily used their on line service.  I will never do so again because of this experience!  When we arrived at our reservation, I happened to see the rate on the sign in sheet!  I was SHOCKED by the difference in what Orbitz was being charged and what they will charge me.  It was more than 25%.  I understand the need to charge a reasonable booking fee, but this was outrageous.  Just beware.  We would have been better off  as a walk in ... I've been...

Orbitz kicks butt. Quite simply, it provides the best experience among comparable Internet travel brokerage services, such as Travelocity, CheapTickets, or Priceline.  The only way Orbitz could get any better than its competitors than it already is would be to steal William Shatner away from Priceline; man, that guy is such a spaz—what a riot.

Whenever I plan a trip, for years I would plug my trip parameters into each of 3 or 4 like services. Orbitz's air fares always come out competitive and generally offer more flight times and carrier options.

Using the Orbitz web site is a more pleasant...

I use Orbitz to book travel for myself and for my mother several times a year, and I started using Orbitz on the recommendation of my father, who uses it several times a year. However, after my last experience, I will never use Orbitz again.

I booked a trip to Las Vegas for May 27 through 30, 2009. This trip was for my best friend's wedding, and about 25 people booked their tickets to the wedding through Orbitz. When I booked my flights, I specified that I wanted flight times after noon. My original flights were the following: I was to leave Omaha at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, and I was to leave Las...

I needed to rent a minivan at  the Tampa  Fl Int. Airport. I WENT ONLINE to search for  a good  deal, and  i saw ORBITZ with  a competitive rate, the only thing  they offer unlimited  miles. i was going to Charlotte N.C. So we wanted  to make sure about  the unlimited miles and that we could take the vehicle out of the FLA. State ( some rental  companies restrict the rental of a vehicle ,<specialy the minivans> to the  state were the vehicle is to avoid high millage)  We call ORBITZ to make sure we  get what we  wanted. I spoke  with a guy named  Amed, and  we specifically...

This past spring (2007) I wanted to return to Pittsburgh from Hawaii to attend a retirement dinner then continue on to Hartford, CT to visit my daughter and grandkids.  I checked several web sites but found that Orbitz was most user-friendly (especially related to additional stops - eg. Hartford) and had the best fare.  In fact, I got a truly amazing fare - round trip Honolulu-Pittsburgh-Hartford-Honolulu -  of $600.  At that time I knew people paying that to the west coast from Honolulu!  In addition, it was possible to cancel the whole trip if necessary by just paying Orbitz' 'fee', which... read full review »

I have only used Orbitz once and I won't make that mistake again. I usually use Travelocity and Priceline, but I thought I would give Orbitz a try and see how it compared. I was planning a weekend away, and when I found a good hotel at a great price on Orbitz I was thrilled. But then I clicked to book the room and it mysteriously jumped in price by about $40/night. I got a little pop-up that said the original price was no longer available and this was the new price. I didn't want that price, so I left the site. But I was suspicious. So I went back a couple days later, and sure enough the...

My friends and I wanted to stay in Santa Cruz for my friends birthday. Orbitz had a room that seemed the cheapest and was close to where we wanted to go. My confirmation said that my room would have a coffee maker, a mini-fridge, and a microwave. It also was going to be a non-smoking room. When we arrived NONE of the things were in our room and the room smelled like an ashtray. I was angry with the hotel but I did book with orbitz so gave them a call. I asked for a refund and they told me if the hotel wouldn't refund them they would not refund me. Other online booking sites have a 100% satisfaction... read full review »

I have stayed in many hotels for many nights.  My experience with Orbitz was the worst:  I made the mistake of booking the Hotel Emporio in Mexico City through Orbitz.  During my stay, the room had numerous problems, including backed up plumbing causing the room to smell like a sewer, air conditioner outages causing the room to be like a sauna, and bellboys ignoring the "do not disturb signs" and knocking on the door at 2:00 am.  After a couple of problems, I contacted Orbitz asking them to contact the management about a partial refund.  Barring that, I said that I was willing to change hotels. ...

I will never use Orbitz again! I just took a trip to the Oregon Coast, Seaside Oregon. And thought it would be a good idea to go through Orbitz to get the best deal (like they advertise) But instead was totally ripped off!! I paid for our Hotel stay with my debit card and was charged istantly by Orbitz. After we completed our stay at the hotel they gave me the reciept and it was 35.60 less than what we were charged by Orbitz! I contacted Orbitz and they said that the price I paid was a contracted amount through the hotel we stayed at. And that the hotel was not supposed to give me a reciept with...

Since my son is in the military I am the one who gets to make his leave travel arrangements. I am familiar with many of the online line ones but use orbitz the most. The have a great service which is flight notification so if a flight is delayed or changed you either get an email or text message. We set up to receive these. Since we use a local airport he has to take connecting flights to get anywhere but last December we ran into a BIG problem when he arrived in Boston only to find his flight had been cancelled due to weather and thus he would not make the next connecting flight. We did not get...

While taking a shuttle to LaGuardia Airport on June 27, 2007, Orbitz called me on my mobile phone with a heads-up that my flight was delayed by a half an hour. A storm was rolling in. Orbitz called me again and again and again with a recorded message of the now obvious situation. Even at 1 a.m. Orbitz called to tell me of the cancellation of my flight. With a low battery, now 7 hours into the wait, I shut off my phone. Hysterical, I joined the rest of the stranded herd wherever we could find some comfort. Curious, I switched on my failing phone to find yet another message from Orbitz. They had... read full review »
