The first major problem I faced via Orbitz, I blamed the hotel. Then in 2023, I discovered that Orbitz was the culprit. Do not use Orbitz unless you are using a credit card. If you use debit, they will rob you and you will not get your money back. This goes for all Expedia platforms. It is best to book your travel plans via the airline and go directly through the hotel or use a third-party booking service but use your credit card. Orbitz has shady business practices.

I recently had two transactions with Orbitz Travel Service, one on May 25, 2021, for $874.95 and another on February 22, 2023, for $1,564.22. Unfortunately, my experience with this company has been extremely disappointing, leading me to share my frustrations on this travel review site. After encountering travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 epidemic, I contacted Orbitz on May 4, 2023, seeking a refund. Their customer support team, including Jim T from Expedia, assured me that I would receive either a refund or credits. However, the credits they provided turned out to be utterly useless, and the company has continuously delayed the refund process. Initially, I was promised full credits for my first transaction, considering the travel freeze caused by the pandemic. To my dismay, when I attempted to utilize these credits in February 2023, I discovered that they were not applicable to any trips. Seeking assistance, I engaged with their chat help, but they were unable to apply the credits to the replacement trip lost during the Covid crisis. In the hopes of using the original credits for a different trip, I decided to make a second transaction on February 22, 2023. This purchase came with a guarantee of a complete refund if canceled before April 2023. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I fell ill and attached a doctor's letter confirming my inability to travel. Despite fulfilling all necessary requirements and providing the requested documentation, Orbitz has adamantly refused to provide the promised refund. Their actions not only violate their own refund policy but also display a complete disregard for customer satisfaction. This level of service is unacceptable and has caused me significant inconvenience and financial hardship. I strongly urge travelers to exercise caution when considering Orbitz Travel Service for their travel needs. My experience highlights their failure to honor commitments, misleading credit offers, and refusal to refund.

Orbitz (Expedia Group) scams people. DO NOT USE ORBITZ!!! I have been trying to get the refund for the cancelled flight back in 2020 due to COVID 19. Since, their excuses and stories for why they can't refund me or validate a voucher have been changing. They first blamed the airline company, then they said the voucher has been expired (the voucher they issues was not usable hence I am still fighting for my money back). Now they tell me the airline directly refunded me already, which is not true because the airline company emailed me with a statement saying that they NEVER transfer a refund directly to customers because the price of a ticket fare for refunds, penalties or fees are calculated by travel agencies. The last response from Orbitz I just received is to check in with my bank because that is the "best place to address my concern." People purchase tickets online with credit cards, not with bank transfers. Orbitz's agents must be hired and paid for being dumb or not caring at all for complicated matters. Why would I check with my bank? The airline company informed me last year that Orbitz collected the refund on Feb. 13, 2021 and Orbitz refuses to refund me or issue a voucher that I can use. E-Dreams (I also had another booking through E-Dreams in 2020) took my case seriously and refunded me 100% months ago whereas Orbitz has stolen my money and tells me to check in with my bank. Orbitz DOES NOT HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY ONLY SUCK MONEY OUT OF THEIR CUSTOMERS.

More than a month ahead, I booked premium economy tickets to NYC -- including specific seats. I have it in writing. But I don't have those seats, it turns out, because Orbitz never confirmed the seats with the airline. Instead of the window and aisle that I booked, we'll be in 2 middle seats -- obviously not together. Orbitz is very apologetic -- and agrees that it's their fault -- but they're not prepared to do anything to remedy the situation. The lesson is clear: skip Orbitz and book directly with the airline.

Beware that if you cancel within 24 hours, Orbitz still charges your account and you can wait up to 60 days for the refund depending on the airline's policy! Orbitz states they only authorize the ticket price and the authorization falls off if cancelled within 24 hours. NOT TRUE! They cancel it in their system but pass the information over to the airline that charges your account. Then you WAIT until whenever and they are useless to resolve the matter!

Terrible Customer Service

Five days after booking with orbitz, I called to confirm my reservation with the hotel. The hotel said they did not have my reservation in their computer. So I called Orbitz and that when I got the run around. I was told they were going to fix the problem and give me a call back to confirm. I never received a call and the day of my travel I had to stay on the phone for over 2 hours for the problem to be resolved.

Under No Circumstances Would I Recommend Orbitz

Made reservations on a package deal, could not understand the person that was "helping" me, asked several times to speak to someone that spoke English. Was informed he was so I had to deal. Requested Delta Comfort because our flight is to Scotland, long flight. Did not know we had been scheduled for Economy until I received the itinerary. Called Orbitz and was advised that I could not change seating arrangements unless I paid an additional $1500/per person! What a deal!! Heaven only knows what our hotel is going to be like. Please do not use Orbitz unless you planned on being taken advantage of!!

I asked Orbitz to cancel or just transfer my moms ticket to my dad instead because my mom passed away before the flight. Orbitz allowed to transfer but the transfer fee is too big that it is cheaper to just purchase a new ticket.

Orbitz sucks and I would not recommend it to anyone ever even in an emergency. We are in a dangerous and filthy area in Memphis TN. Room is so nasty we are using the towels as a boardwalk to avoid stepping on the filthy carpet. Sleeping on top of the bed covers using the blanket we brought from home as a barrier. The halls and lobby are not air conditioned & the unventilated room's a/c was off when we arrived. We have been here for fourteen hours now and our room is still hot and stuffy with a/c barely running. Thermostat is just for looks, no matter what you set it on a weak lukewarm stream of stuffy air trickles out. Wish I had booked with anyone except orbitz.
