I'm really big on oral hygiene. I hate the idea of cavities or losing my teeth. In fact, my worst nightmares involve losing my teeth. Just thinking of it makes me shiver. I am meticulous in my oral hygiene routine. Brush, floss, mouthwash; all is right with the world. So I can tell you, and you can understand totally, that my toothbrush is important to me.
We have used this brand, the Oral-B CrossAction, for years. I can remember the very first time I used a powered toothbrush, it was a crossaction. Being very analytical, I did the same experiment I used with my new Vacuum: Use the old one, then immediately go over it all again with the new. If you haven't switched from a manual brush yet, do so today. The difference is night and day. Try my experiment and see for yourself.
Anyway back to the specific brush. The Cross Action is lightweight and ergonomically designed to fit nicely in your hand. It takes only one AA battery, and the heads are also replaceable (using a tool that comes with the replacement heads). I see this as very environmentally friendly: less plastic toothbrush handles to fill the garbage dumps! It comes in a variety of colors, and there are different price points for the replacement heads. I recommend the top of the line heads (they're quite nice) but all of the heads work great, we've tried them all. They all have the added feature of the blue bristles that turn white when the head needs replacement. I've always loved that feature!
But how does it compare to other battery toothbrushes, you ask? Unfortunately, I know firsthand. We'd had the same brushes for about two years, replacing heads and batteries as needed. I liked my toothbrush, but I kept thinking maybe there was a better one out there. So I tossed out the Oral-B Cross Actions and purchased all new Crest Spinbrushes. For the next year I argued with myself every time I used that dang Spinbrush. Because after the first week, I knew I had made a mistake. But the Spinbrush was more expensive, so I didn't want to have wasted the money. It also was way heavier, used two AA batteries, used them faster, and the heads were designed poorly. I realized after a while that the funny smell was coming from water that was trapped in the brush head. The drain hole is near the top of the brush, but I stored it right-side up. So water became trapped in the head, due to the poor design, and festered there. OMG, gross! I had no idea for nearly a year that this was the case. I started taking the thing apart after every use, but how big of a pain is that? Eventually I just gave in to reason and bought all new Oral-B CrossAction brushes, at Costco, for a huge savings. The first time I went back to my CrossAction, I was so relieved! Better design, better battery life, just a better toothbrush!
Bottom Line: A great, affordable battery powered toothbrush. Worth the cost, and Better than the competition.
