To the Point

I get canker sores because I have an autoimmune disorder called Sjorgren's Syndrome. I was sent some samples of CankerMelts which can be bought in a package of 12 for $8.00 in Walgreens.

A Closer View

Let's look at the ingredients first:

The active ingredient is Glycyrrhiza extract (GX), which comes from the root of the licorice plant. GX is thought to have pain relieving, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. The inactive ingredients are Hydrophilic Gums and Potassium.

Since I found my CankerMelts to work I'll just get right into what the claims are.

  • Relieves pain in minutes
  •  Heals sores in 1-5 days
  • Time releases soothing collagen and natural medication, not numbing chemicals.
  • CankerMelts have a mild flavor
  • They are somewhat self-adhering. They are advertised as being self adhering and that may be true in some parts of the mouth. I used mine on the sides of my mouth and held it in place. It would stick a bit but not enough. Also you can use these at night so again they would really have to stay put.
  • Keep these away from children under 6 because of the risk of choking. CankerMelts are small measuring about 1/2 inch round.
  • I don't have the following so I can't attest to this statement " Works well with braces and dentures." www.orahealth.com

My Experience

I took a CankerMelt out of the foil and held it on my canker sore on the crack of my mouth. There were times when I could leave it and it would stay put such as while watching TV. It very slowly dissolved releasing the the licorice that really did heal my canker sore quickly. I was pain free in a day and within 2 or 3 days the canker sore was totally gone.

Research

"The results of a 2006 National Institutes of Health - National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research funded study at the University of Washington showed oral patches with Glycyrrhiza extract were able to decrease ulcer size and significantly lower both passive and stimulated pain in 81 percent of the treatment group." The source is wikipedia.

    Jo's Viewpoint

I would definitely buy CankerMelts. I like the ingredients and this little disc worked for me.
